External fixator after, after care?!

My now 10 month old pugalier was hit by two cars 6 weeks ago, he had a broken pelvis and a broken hind leg (compound fracture). He had to go to a vet specialist for surgery ($7000 worth) and they put a plate on his pelvis and external fixtures on his leg. In a few days he will be having x-rays to see if the pins can be removed which the surgeon said was likely as he's young and healing quickly. I know he won't be able to run/jump as usual, but surely he would be able to have more freedom as he has had to have "strict cage rest" for the last 6 weeks, only let out to potty 3 times a day, on a leash... But I also get him out for cuddles regularly. Can anyone tell me what it was like for them with their dog after the external fixators were removed? Obviously it depends on how the break is looking and it would be different for dogs with different injuries but I guess I'm just trying to figure out what to expect. Thank you!

I'm betting that your puppy will have to be on restricted activity for at LEAST a few more weeks after removal of the fixator, but since he is a youngster hopefully not for very long! What a lucky puppy to have such a caring owner!
