Dog taking care of others dogs puppies
Our dog (s) had puppies about 4 weeks ago. About a week ago s stopped caring as much for the puppies and our other dog (r) has steppes in. We don't know what we're supposed to do. R keeps going into the puppies pen and cuddles with them, cleans them and the puppies even try to nurse on her. Today we decided to lock the pen so r couldn't go in but she moved the pen so that she could lay pressed up against it while the puppies laid next to her on the other side of the pen. What should we do about this, if anything? I don't know if we should be worried that she is trying to take over the mom role. It was cute at first but now it's almost kind of weird.

Some dogs have no problem adopting other dogs' puppies. I wouldn't worry until the pups are around 7 or 8 weeks old, esp. since Mom is not caring for them. By then, they should be pretty independent.
