I feed almost entirely raw food from the grocery store. Mostly turkey and beef. Occasionally I'll buy something from Bravo! or Primal. Usually I only buy their "exotic" meats, like salmon, for variety.
When his stomach gets upset, I let him fast for a while. Vance is the type that won't even consider eating if he doesn't feel well, so I let him tell me when he's ready for a meal again. Then I give him ground poultry. Nice and easy to digest.

I'd rather wait until you get a lot closer to having a real dog of your own to answer your questions. It is not OK to stick a name on any old (young) dog and make it an account.

The best diet is probably raw and kibble. (Note: do lots of research on how to properly feed the raw diet before ever trying it.)
I feed my dogs a high quality kibble from the pet store (Pet Supplies "Plus") called Diamond. I chose it because it had meat (chicken meal to be specific) as the first ingredient. The first ingredient in a food is always the main ingredient. Just like people need grains more than anything, dogs need meat more than anything. Also, just chicken isn't as the first ingredient isn't good because it has lots of water and take away the water and it's not the first ingredient anymore. Chicken meal, however, is different.
Please do lots and lots and lots of research between now and the time you get a dog. Study on what breed to get (to make sure that the breed you want will fit your lifestyle), study where the best places are to get it, study on the supplies you'll need, study on what to feed it, how to care for it properly, and how to train it properly.
Good luck!
