Actually ACD's (red or blue heelers) are minimum shedders year round, they 'blow' thier coats in one massive shed once a year if they are males or neutered females and twice if they are intact females.
en.wikipedia.org
here is one site that will give you a bit of info but just google Australian Cattle Dog and you will find plenty of information. During the time they are 'blowing thier coat' it is a surprising amount of hair, that double coat hides a lot of hair, it is good to still brush, and bathe them year round to keep them used to it as for that 2 weeks or so they shed bags of hair that you will want to gather by brushing to keep it to a minimum in your house.
