Do Newfoundland dogs have personalties like Labs?

I've had Labs all my life; but I've always wanted a chocolate Newfoundland. Recently someone that doesn't know much about dogs told me that they essentially have tha same personality. Is that true?

:]
Thanks

Newfoundlands are great dogs! They can weigh up to 100 - 150 pounds. Males are usually larger than females. They shed, A LOT! They need daily brushing. They need to be fed 3-4 times a day, a high quality diet. They stand at 27 - 29 inches. They have a medium activity level, low indoors and medium to high outdoors. They are used as working dogs, primarily used as search and rescue dogs, cart pulling dog, swimming/retrieving dogs and service/therapy and guide dogs. They need a long daily walk and a job is preferred or a daily romp at the dog park. They need plenty of socialization and training! They are intelligent, gentle, loving, curious, brave, powerful, majestic, protective dogs. They are great with kids, as well as other animals if properly socialized and trained. They rarely bark, great guard dogs. They drool like Hounds, when they shake their heads, drool will go from wall to wall!

Somewhat.. The overall dog has a very gentle dispotiton. They are generally good with children and are extremely loyal.
