Do Flea Collars Work? Any Cheap Flea And Tick Medication?

I don't want my puppy to get any fleas or ticks. He doesn't have any but I want to prevent him from getting any. I was wondering whether flea and tick collars can successfully prevent any from appearing. Also are there any cheap flea and tick medication I can buy?

personally, I do not like the flea collars. My guys are on Sentinel..a once a month pill, which also works on some worms. There are so many parasite control options. Discus with your vet which one will be right for Monty. Yes, there are "cheap" products..but you get what you pay for!

Cheapest option is no chemicals at all. I don't use any flea control on Bruno and he's never had one. I think my neighborhood is not very full of fleas though, so I can get away with it. He also spends most of his time indoors, and never goes to dog-heavy places like dogparks. Next cheapest is probably natural treatments like diatomaceous earth and herbal repellants. (Not sure how well most of those work, though.)

Personally, I would NEVER use an over-the-counter (petstore) flea control product, especially anything made by Hartz. They are not tested for safety and have been mislabeled before.

As Wiley and Bruno said, no over the counter flea and tick products of any kind!

I tried collars and spot-on treatments in the past when money was tight and I made my dog sick. I either use Frontline and Iverhart or Revolution with a Preventic collar. There are generic versions of Frontline that are the same, but less expensive.

It's cheaper to protect your pup from diseases caused by parasites, than to try and treat the problems after the dog becomes sick.

I highly recommend using PETfection Bug Spray. It is 100% Organic and Non Toxic. It doesn't contain any chemicals and works great at keeping fleas, ticks, & mosquitoes away. You just spray it on daily or as needed. It is safe for puppies and will work much better than a flea collar. It smells good too! I love it.
