Diabetic Dog

My friend has a diabetic dog and she is searching for a good holistic dog food. The vet has recommened w/d prescription from Science Diet, but she does not want to feed her dog that food. Her dog is a 10 yr old Shihtzu and is overweight as well. Does anyone have any advice on a good dog food?

Science Diet is terrible. She must know all the bad things about SD. It made my pup gray at 2 years. Once I changed his diet he lost the gray muzzle. Iv had many pups tell me the same story.
