Coco in Heat?

I am wondering if my Coco is going into heat? She has been moody. Very secretive, sensitive and sleepy. She is also licking herself ALOT. I mean she sleeps next to me on the floor in her bed and I heard her all through the night licking herself. Also, she is pretty good at holding her pee especially since we take her out before bed time and last night while my hubby showered she got up from her bed and wet the floor at the entrance of the Bedroom. She has also become very emotionally needy. She prefers my hubby and just wants to be pet, scratched and held. Are these signs?

Thanks. This is new to us. We just got her about 1 1/2 weeks ago. So we really don't know her heat schedule.

It sounds more like a Urinary Tract Infection to me. My girls do not act any different when coming into heat... their vulva swells and there is blood drops all over the place, but their temperament and personality does not change one bit.
You are describing classic UTI symptoms, however. I would certainly get a urinalysis done to make sure.

I would watch her and make sure no males are ever around her. just watch her and see.
the needy part could be just adjusting to her new owners.
I am not sure just watch her carefully so she doesn't become pregnant.
After she comes out of heat you can get her spayed and never worry about all the problems that go with it
Heats two weeks coming in and two weeks going out.
Then after last heat they generally come in to heat again every 6 months unless there is some hormonal issues then the heats can vary.

If she is in heat she will start showing discharge and redd-ish fluid. Also dogs in heat tend to "dance" when around male dogs... they do normal play behavior with a lot of running up to and away from. This is the stage before you see discharge. Once you see the discharge/fluids you will know she is in heat!! The total heat cycle is 3 weeks. So if you don't see any of these symptoms, she could just have a UTI.
