Sometimes, but it depends on the illness. Most canine and human ailments don't cross species. If you are sick, go to the doctor immediately and follow all care instructions. Then talk to your vet on how to prevent passing your disease onto your dog, or if that is even a concern.

Dogs cannot catch a human cold or flu virus. There are some diseases that can be passed between dogs and humans, but the common cold and flu are not among them. There is a dog flu that dogs can catch from other dogs, however.

The chances are slim, but it can happen. He is more likely to get sick from another dog or animal. If it seems like your pet had a cold, take him to a vet. It's your safest bet.
