NO!!! That is a human drug and has different side effects and reactions when used on a dog.
Take the dog to a groomer or veterinarian to get his nails cut if he won't let you do it, BUT DO NOT GIVE HIM DRUGS MEANT FOR HUMANS!!!

It seems like overkill. Just have one person hold him (applying gentle pressure with one arm under his armpit and cross his chest and the other arm wrapped around the front of his chest. If that doesn't do it, then groomer or vet will trim them for about $10. Why use a sledgehammer when tweezers will work, you know?

No, that is extremely dangerous and can kill your dog. Do NOT give your dog Xanax, I repeat do NOT give your dog Xanax.
If you have a hard time cutting his nails, take him to the groomer or the vet and have them cut his nails for $10 dollars or so. It will put ease to both of you.
