Can a mutt like me enter an obdience contest?

My name is Polly and I was adopted 1 year ago. I am a grown-up dog, and I was adopted as an adult, but I am so inteligent that my owner managed to teach me some cool things! I know how to do pratically everything and now I am on the top of my obdience classes. I wonder if, being a mixed breed, I can enter any professional show someday. If so, any advice? What's your experience with obdience training?
PS. My dog isn't a superb worker who cannot have fun, like some. He is actually pretty impossible.

Although AKC organizes many obedience shows, mixed breeds are welcome. Check www.akc.org Much of what I know of obedience is through 4-H. I never competed, and my daughter is long past the age for it, but that doesn't stop us from letting other young ladies show our future service dogs.

There is also agility and fly ball. I am not sure if dogs must be purebreds for dock diving and earthing. I think free form dancing star Diane Kowalski's dog is a rescue.

Yes your dog would be able to enter an AKC show. AKC announced this year that they are starting a mixed breed program. You can apply for a ID number starting in October though you wouldn't be able to show untill April of 2010. Here is a link about the program:

Also some working dog organizations take all mix dogs are United Schutzhund Clubs of America and the Working Dog Association.
You can do just the Obedience part.
Next week my dog will be doing the tracking portion. Until we can get the formal retrieve to do the full entire obedience routine then I am doing just the tracking part.
They have an obstacle course degree also.
So don't be afraid of checking out the sites as they are geared for all.:) good luck and have fun.

There is a national orginization for obdience that s for none AKC dogs. When I put a CD on two resuced Dobies, the chapter I used was North Texas Obeidance Club. They passed the same trials and got registered numbers, just like th AKC. goggle for a chapter in you area- have fun and remember it is a lot of work, but well worth it.
