Best practice for socializing a rescue?

My wife an I recently adopted a 4 week old puppy up whose mother was killed and the owner was simply overwhelmed with taking care of 10 too young pups. We already own an 8y/o Australian Shepard and an 11y/o collie mix who are both extremely well behaved, yet neither of our dogs want anything to do with new addition to the family. They're not aggressive, they're simply indifferent. We don't know anybody that has a pup of any age and am looking for advice on how to properly socialize him. We are going to the vet tomorrow but would like to see what options are available.
