Bad sticky ears?
I have searched the answers to other questions simular but we've tried everything everyone has suggested...
Our dog has brown stuff in his ears, one ears worse than the other, they bleed sometimes, our dog has never been a smelly dog it's just his ears that stink. We've been to the vets plenty of times they said that it's not mites but it could been an ear infection and to clean them and to use drops. we clean them with cotton wool and warm water and apply the drops. They said that it should clear up within a few weeks but it's been over 2 years now and the problems getting worse. But everytime we go back we get given the same expensive drops that don't do anything and our dogs in more pain with it now.

What you describe is absolutely a bad ear infection. Your vet is not doing a good job of managing the ear infections, so I'd recommend you find another.
These infections can actually be caused by moisture in the ears, so cleaning them with warm water might be making it worse for him.
If the drops don't work, then it's possible he has a strain of yeast or other bacteria that isn't responsive to the drugs and another brand or formula should have been tried. Most infections don't take a couple of weeks to get better, it's usually a matter of days (though the meds might need to be used for a week or two) that you see a good improvement.
Also, I'd recommend asking for a culture of the discharge to be taken. It's possible he has two types of infections on top of each other, a bacterial and a yeast infection.
These are painful infections and I'm sure he's in a lot of discomfort, poor baby! Be sure to get a second opinion fast because he could lose his hearing. Good luck!!!!

I'm not sure if you have already done this, but you should go to a different vet for a second opinion. You could also get some ear cleaning solution from the vet to clean his ears before the drops rather than using water.
Prolonged ear infections like this can result in a dog going deaf. So I think you should go to a different vet, bring all his records and things that the other vet tried and tell the new one that this hasn't worked for Arnie, that it has been going on for two years and you want a second opinion.

Hi, I've had the same prob off and on with my Taz. I've been told that it was allergies, though they cannot tell me if it's indoors, outdoors or food without testing. I would try switching dog food first to see if that helps. I started feeding my dogs Purina One, sensitive system, instead of the expensive stuff the vet recommended simply because I had two dogs at the time ( Now we have 3). The change of the food helped not only Taz, but also the anal gland issues that my Poodle was experiencing ( also due to food allergies). If you decide to switch food make sure you slowly mix, adding small amounts of new to the old, so that he doesn't get an upset stomach or diarreah. Good Luck, Joy

If this has been an on-going problem, it is most likely a food allergy. Changing diets is probably the solution. Visit the raw forums and ask some questions, and get started on a diet that will most likely fix the problem.
