Oscar

Australian Cattle Mutt? What am I?

I'm Oscar, and Australian Cattle dog mix. I am black and tan, with a dappled chest. I weigh 50 pounds and have erect ears (they flopped over when I was younger). I'm hyper and love people, but also dominance aggressive. I get very protective over my house.
I have a natural bob-tail, which throws my owner off. Where did I get that?! Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog? But those aren't exactly common. Aussie? But I don't look like one.
Any help?

Wow, your a tough one to figure aren't you....

Few breeds have a natural bob-tail. Aussie Shepherds, Entlebucher...I think he might be Stumpy-tailed/German Shepherd mix.

He has the German Shepherd "smile" in the profile photo. Full of personality.

Snickers also has a natural bob-tail, his DNA test came back as 1/4 Flat-Coated Retriever, 1/4 Siberian Husky, 1/2 unknown. Great. Well he was all unknown before, so it's an improvement....but we still don't know where his bob-tail came from....ahg!

If you ever DNA test him, let us know!

Zack

One common stockdog mixed breed is called a "Texas Heeler," which farmers breed to work livestock. It is a mix of ACD and another herding breed, usually an Australian Shepherd. The dogs can inherit a variety of traits from either parent, so it's possible your dog could have inherited a lot of the ACD looks and the Aussie tail. Texas Heelers do not always have to be a purebred-to-purebred cross. Their looks generally range from dogs who look mostly like an ACD, to dogs who look mostly like an Aussie, and anything in between.

I also think your dog looks a little like a GSD, but I'm not too sure.

Oscar is very cute!

Just to confuse things a little more, you look like Cindy, an Australian Kelpie. Another herding breed. The black and tan color, stand up ears, yep, could have some Kelpie in you!
Here's a breeders site with more info.
