Are there special daily grooming tips for Female Springer Spaniels?
My vet got me concerned about my female spaniel's "private area" and the cleanliness of it. I just wondered if any Spaniel owners had any pointers about her daily care.....she does lick down there a bit after she's gone pee but is there something I'm supposed to be doing? Secondly when she goes out to pee, she squats and pees once and then shortly after she squats and pees again somewhere else. Is that normal? Thanks to my vet I'm paranoid that she is getting an infection or something.

It's best to keep the hair trimmed under the tail and just below the private area. Don't shave it close but short and tidy. Thin the feathers in that area also. If not the hair gets yellow and stained, especially if there's alot of white fur. We use a self rinse shampoo with a wet cloth weekly, in between baths. Occasionally I'll even use baby wipes. The squats after she has already tickled are most likely her marking over another dog or another animal. Don't worry too much, just make sure she gets plenty of water to drink.
