Am I sleeping too much?
Hey guys! My name is Toby, and my mommy is very concerned about me. I was very active when they came to visit me at the shelter, but ever since I got home I've been sleeping a lot. I'm two months old, and I am active when I'm awake. I love eating, and my BM is solid. I am healthy, and show no signs of any sickness, but my mommy is concerned about how much I sleep. Should she be concerned? I did get neutered the day before my parents picked me up. Could that have anything to do with me being sleepy all of the time? My parents adopted another puppy about a year ago from another shelter, but that puppy was really sick. She was diagnosed with distemper. Apparently, she got the virus from the shelter, and my parents had her for less than a month. My mommy thinks she might be paranoid, but she just wants to make sure I'm ok. I'm going in for my check-up this weekend, so I'm hoping the vet will tell my parents that I'm healthy. Do you think I'm sleeping too much? Should mommy be concerned?

Puppies generally do sleep a lot at first as everything is so overwhelming but I would have the thyroid when at the vets. A lot of sleeping, especially deep sleep can be a sign of thyroid.

When we first adopted Deogie he slept A LOT. Eat, poop, play for a bit, nap time.
I wouldn't be concerned, it seems like everything is well with Toby. Eating, BM's good, energy when he is awake, all excellent signs Toby is a healthy puppy.
Congrats on the new fur.

An 8 week old puppy sleeps an average of 20 to 22 hours EACH day. They will wake up, play a bit, eat a bit and go back to sleep. Puppies can have the same issues with being overtired as human babies and become very fussy and cross if they don't get enough sleep during the day.

Think about it from his point of view.
The shelter is noisy, dogs bark 24/7. Hard to sleep, but if he does he must be really deeply sleeping to keep from waking up.
When people come to visit it's very exciting, they play and sometime give food.
But now he's in a nice quiet home, soft places to sleep, nice people to play with all the time, not lie around in a cage all day. Good food. Safe.
I'd sleep too.
Shelters are NOT real great about Vet care, they try, but not top care. I like to see the Vet within 24 hours of getting a new dog or puppy.
