Choosing a Good Puppy Name

Size

It’s easy to look through a list of male or female names, but you can narrow down your choices by picking something that helps describe your dog. Many people like referencing the size of their dog when they name it, and the Yorkie is a smaller breed, so names like Teacup, Chip, Bug, Baby, and Minnie are popular Yorkshire Terrier names. These also make great Yorkie puppy names, but it’s important to remember that the dog won’t always be a puppy.

Activity

When selecting male Yorkie names, many people like to name their boy dog after their favorite activity. Most people don’t think of Yorkshire Terriers as hunting dogs, but they were originally ratters for miner’s grain mills, and they can be quite active. Names like Archer, Bullet, Bolt, and Hunter are excellent Yorkie boy names for active dogs.

Cute Names

Many people try to select something cute, like Angel, Binky, Tootsie, and Star, when selecting Yorkie girl names. Baby Dolls and Buttons are popular for the long-haired variety of the Yorkshire Terrier.

Food

People often choose to name both male and female Yorkies after different foods. Sometimes the dog will resemble the food or be the same color. It might also be the dog’s favorite food or the person that’s naming it. Good examples of food that would make a great name for a Yorkie include Brownie, Apple, Cocoa, Biscuit, Cookie, and Pumpkin.

Opposites

Opposites are fun to play around with when you are naming your pet. Your small, cute, and friendly Yorkie can have a name like Killer, Beast, Fang, or Abomination. These names can get plenty of attention from friends and neighbors when they meet your lovable pet.

Summary

You can name your pet after just about anything, and it can be a lot of fun. We recommend spending some time to come up with something unique because, with any luck, you’ll be using it for 15 years or more. We realize the dog needs a name, but you can spend a day or two going through this list and getting to know your pet before you make a choice. You can also try out a few different names for a few minutes to see if they feel right, and a lot of people like to try several names, almost as if they are trying to guess the dog’s name until they find one that gets their attention.

No matter what name you choose, we hope you enjoyed reading over our list, and that it helped get you started. If we have helped you find something perfect, please share these 150+ Yorkie names on Facebook and Twitter.
