What Breed of Dog Is Zuma?

Zuma is America’s most popular dog, the Labrador Retriever! Labs have been the most popular dog in the United States for over 30 years because of their loyalty, intelligence, trainability, and people-oriented nature.

Zuma is a chocolate Lab who represents everything the Lab breed stands for and takes his job very seriously. Like most Labs, Zuma is a big fan of water. In fact, he’s a big enough fan to be the water rescuer of the Paw Patrol team.

Zuma’s Personality

Zuma’s job on the team is primarily to rescue people and underwater animals from danger. He is a playful dog who is seemingly always full of energy and spreads his infectious happiness to the other members of the team. Zuma is so energetic that one of his favorite pastimes is surfing.

In the first few seasons of the show, Zuma had a speech impediment that made it difficult for him to properly pronounce his “R” sounds. After Season 3 of the show, though, Zuma’s speech impediment seems to have resolved.

You can usually find Zuma wearing his signature orange helmet, as well as his orange jacket and pup pack. He operates a hovercraft speed boat during his water adventures to save lives.

Zuma’s Likes and Dislikes

Like the other puppies on Paw Patrol, Zuma has some well-defined likes and dislikes. Not only does he love to surf, but he also is a big fan of scuba diving and doing anything that involves water. He also enjoys kite surfing and is an overall athletic dog. Like most pups, Zuma loves treats, but one of his favorite things is coconuts. He also loves seaweed, whales, seals, walruses, and mer-pups. He’s a competitive dog who especially loves competing with Paw Patrol teammate, Skye. He also enjoys watching the other dogs play “tug-a-pillow”.

Zuma is a pretty laid-back dog who doesn’t have very many dislikes. One of his biggest dislikes is seeing Ryder in dangerous situations. He also doesn’t like seeing Rocky the Dalmatian getting wet. Rocky has a complete aversion to water in almost every form, including baths. Other things that Zuma dislikes are squid jerky, ghosts, and crocodiles.
