Once a year, Corgi fans from all around the world come together to celebrate this adorable breed. So when is International Corgi Day? It happens on 4th July and this day is dedicated to appreciating the loyal and beloved breed of Corgis and their unique characteristics that have brought joy to so many people. It’s a chance for everyone who loves these furry four-legged friends to show off their own pups and share stories about why they love them so much.

Originating in Wales centuries ago, Corgis have become popular over the years due to their friendly nature, intelligence, loyalty, and ever-so-cute appearance. On this special day each year, thousands of people join together in celebration of this amazing breed with events such as dog shows and meetup points where local owners can get together for playdates or just a good old chat about their pup’s latest antics.

When & How Did International Corgi Day Begin?

Observed worldwide on June 4, International Corgi Day celebrates this diminutive, beloved herding breed. It was first established as a day of celebration in 2019 by a group of friends who later formed the Omaha Corgi Crew to promote the event further. In addition to raising funds for Corgi rescue charities, it is a way of celebrating Corgis and Corgi mixes throughout the world and raising awareness about them. In honor of this wonderful day, the Omaha Corgi Crew organizes events at dog parks to allow owners of Corgis to socialize with their furry companions and have fun.

The United States has its own special day dedicated to celebrating Corgis. That’s right: March 1st is National Corgi Day! Every year on March 1st, people around the United States come together online and offline to celebrate the lives of these furry friends. Whether it’s dressing up your pup or hosting a Corgi meetup in your neighborhood park, there are plenty of ways to join in on the fun. There’s no harm in having two separate days to show your bestie some love.

Corgis: Why Are They Famous?

Pembroke Welsh Corgis, the preferred dog of the late Queen Elizabeth II, are a well-loved and popular breed. Their royal association certainly hasn’t hurt the public’s devotion to them. Over the course of Queen Elizabeth’s long reign, she owned dozens of Corgis and Corgi mixes. Her royal pooches have appeared on TV, in movies, and on royal memorabilia. Queen Elizabeth’s mother kept Corgis, and Queen Elizabeth’s first Corgi (Susan) was given to her in 1944. Susan even accompanied the Queen on her honeymoon.

What Other Breeds of Dogs Have Special Days of Celebration?

Pets are beloved members of the family, and many people want to celebrate them. Some breeds of dogs have special days dedicated to their breeds. There is an array of different types of canine breeds that can be celebrated on certain days throughout the year. For example, aside from International Corgi Day there is a National Boston Terrier Day and a French Bulldog Day. In addition, there is also an Australian Shepherd Appreciation Day and a Labrador Retriever Appreciation Day. But there’s a huge list of dog days available here. Not only do these days honor certain breeds, but they also provide pet owners with the opportunity to show off pictures of their furry friends on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or X (formerly Twitter).

How Should I Celebrate International Corgi Day?

Celebrating International Corgi Day is an exciting event for any fan of the beloved lil’ breed. How can you make this day extra special for your furry friend? Here are a few ideas to help you plan the perfect celebration of International Corgi Day.

You could plan a fun outing with your pup. Take them to their favorite dog park or beach so they can play and run around with other dogs. Or, if they don’t like crowds, spend some quality time together indoors playing fetch or teaching them new tricks. This could be a great day to whip up something tasty just for them. If you don’t have time to cook, then just have some of their favorite snacks on hand. This is also a day to be a #ProudPetParent and post photos of your dog looking fierce all over social media. However, if all you manage to do is give them some extra cuddles and love—that’s all good too! Your Corgi loves you no matter what.
