Remember when you were a kid and fall came and you got to jump into piles of leaves as big as a house and roughhouse until you were dead tired and sleepy and mom brought out the fixings for smores?

Me neither. The leaf piles of my youth were knee high on the best of days and no wider than a hula hoop. Jumping into one was good for just a moment’s worth of enjoyment, which backed right up against the outraged bellowing from the house vis a vis what I had just done to the yard.

The dog in this video, however, is having the childhood that television told us about, courtesy of the leaf pile to end all leaf piles as collected by his owner, Kent Petersen, who posted this on YouTube:

Admittedly, this video is an old one (2012), but Gawker just unearthed it and we had to share it, because this video contains many things that we’d file under “best ever.”

First of all: the leaf pile. How does one get a leaf pile like that? Magic? Also of note is the way the dog is having so much fun he has to bolt across the lawn to shed some of the fun so he can turn around and dive right back into the fun. We also like: The dog’s fearless submarine-style of leaf play, the yard (nice size!), the giggling, and the fake-out at the end so Butch can finally get his drink of water from the house. We’re also amazed at this insane pause in the action at 0.26:

“I just had just finished raking leaves, when Butch decided to help,” writes Petersen.

Fall is officially on.
