Born on the Fourth of July, this indomitable soul won’t let a wheelchair get in the way of a happy, fulfilled life. No, we’re not talking about the 1989 film starring Tom Cruise, we’re talking about BeeBee the Chihuahua, whose different abilities make her life a little more challenging, but also all the more precious.

She was born without shoulder blades, so she can’t place weight on her front paws or straighten her legs. But that doesn’t stop her — she’s been outfitted with a special wheelchair that allows her to roll to and fro with relative ease, bringing joy to the hearts of the residents at the Alpine Living Center in Thornton, CO.

At first BeeBee was not so lucky, and though she always succeeded at bringing a smile to all who encountered her, she couldn’t move around much on her differently shaped front legs. That’s when some students at a tech school stepped in to give BeeBee a helping paw. Putting their minds together, the students designed and developed a little wheelchair for BeeBee to use.

It didn’t take long for BeeBee to figure out how to maneuver with her new wheels, and now she rolls around confidently. Her human claims that she even refuses to wear a leash! Her wheelchair has a bright pink flag to alert others that the lion-hearted Chihuahua is roaming underfoot.

It’s the kind of story that brings a tear to our eye!
