Meet K-9 Batman, aka Tuco, aka Tuco Salamanca, the Mexican drug kingpin in the AMC series Breaking Bad, which is in no way reflective of the demeanor or moral standing or mental state of the handsome canine because aw he’s a puppy.
This picture was posted on Facebook by Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog, which provides police vests for the state’s K-9 unit, and everybody just sort of melted. It can’t hurt to see it one more time:
The group put the nine-week-old puppy in the police vest because once someone had the idea to do it, it had to be done. And so it was. And then Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog realized it had the pefect addition to its yearly calendar, which features police dogs with their handlers. The calendars raise funds for the vests; so far the group has paid for 380 vests since 2000. You can buy a calendar here.
As for naming the dog Tuco, James Kenneally, a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department’s K-9 unit, told Today.com that the dog’s trainer, officer Troy Caisey, “liked the name just for the way it sounds, not because of what the character represents on Breaking Bad. We’re not advocating the sale of illegal narcotics.”
Good. That is the correct position for the Boston Police Department.
Tuco is now six months old, and Caisey one day hopes he can join Boston Police, but it’s still too early to say whether the pup will become a full-fledged police dog.
“It depends on the dog and how he matures,” he told Boston Magazine. “I’m doing foundation work with him now, and in a couple of months I’ll know if he will make it as a work dog and when he will start his formal training. I’m doing little things with him now, but no formalized training will start until later.”
