Review Summary
We give Victor Puppy Food a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
Victor is a line of dog food that may not be on every store’s shelves but should be. This food is affordable and well-balanced with lots of protein, healthy fats, and carbs that growing puppies need. The only issue we have with Victor is that most of their formulas that are made with puppies in mind can also be fed to adult dogs. While their foods are designed for all life stages, not all adult dogs should eat formulas designed for pups. Other than that issue, however, Victor is a great brand of food that people can trust when it comes to their pups.

Victor Puppy Food Reviewed
Now, let’s take a more in-depth look at Victor’s puppy food. We’ll learn more about the ingredients, their formulas, and whether this food is suited for your puppy.
Who Makes Victor and Where Is It Produced?
Victor dog food is made in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. The manufacturer of the food, Mid America Pet Foods utilizes an internal nutritional team to produce top-of-the-line dog food for pets around the country. They even reach out to 3rd party nutritionists to ensure all regulations are met and their products are produced with the best recipes possible.
Which Type of Puppies Is Victor Dog Food Best Suited For?
While Victor dog food follows the AAFCO’s guidelines for all life stages, we aren’t exactly thrilled that they don’t have a specific formula for puppies. Adult dogs and puppies require different nutritional needs and should be given different foods. Yes, all life-stage foods meet requirements, but we still feel it best that puppies have the formula they need for growing up healthy while adult dogs receive the food they need to continue their active, healthy lifestyles.
Which Type of Dog Might Do Better with a Different Brand?
We recommend that adult dogs eat foods designed for them. If you choose to give your puppy Victor’s line of puppy foods, you may be better suited to providing them with one of Victor’s other formulas when they reach adulthood. Our favorite is Victor Professional Formula Dry Dog Food.
Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good and Bad)
Puppies and Protein
Victor does a great job of providing growing puppies with the protein they need to grow into happy, healthy dogs. Many of their recipes, whether they are for puppies or all life stages contain several protein sources. The majority of their foods include beef, chicken, and pork products. However, they do not use fresh protein products. Instead, they use a meat concentrate which the company claims are more potent than fresh protein options.
Puppies and Fats
You may not realize it, but puppies need a good source of fat in their diet for healthy development. It supplies them with the energy they need to keep up with their active lifestyles and even helps improve the look of their skin and coat. Luckily, Victor uses several good fat sources such as flaxseed, chicken fat, and canola oil.
Puppies and Carbs?
Yes, unless they have sensitivities to grains, puppies need carbs in their diet. The carbs that Victor prefers using are whole grain millet, whole grain brown rice, sorghum, and feeding oatmeal. Unfortunately, in their grain-free options, they do use peas as the carbohydrate source which is potentially linked to illnesses in dogs.

Reviews of the 3 Best Victor Puppy Food Recipes
1. Victor Hi-Pro Plus for Dogs and Puppies
This dry food is made with chicken, beef, pork, and fish meal to provide your puppy with the high levels of protein they need to thrive. It also features whole grain millet to ensure your pup has the carbs they need. This dog food meets the requirements to be considered safe for all life stages. We would still prefer that adult dogs don’t eat formulas that are intended for puppies. The guaranteed analysis of this dog food reads 30% Crude Protein, 20% Crude Fat, 3.8% Crude Fiber, and 9% Moisture.
This food also contains yeast which can be an allergen for dogs so please feed with caution.
- High in protein
- Includes whole grains
- Good for digestions
- Includes the allergen yeast
- Not specifically formulated for puppies
2. Victor Purpose Active Dog & Puppy Formula Dry Dog Food
This formula by Victor is to ensure puppies with sensitivities have an option when it comes to their dog food. While we like that this food features protein, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients active puppies need, there are a few things about this dog food we aren’t fond of. The first thing that grabs our attention is that peas are used as one of the primary ingredients. Another issue we have with this food is like Victor’s other puppy formula the bag states it is for puppies and dogs. It is best for adult dogs to eat adult formula dog food instead of puppy foods. The guaranteed analysis of this food reads 33% Crude Protein, 16% Crude Fat, 3.8% Crude Fiber, and 9% Moisture.
- High in protein
- Features needed vitamins and minerals
- Grain-free recipe for pups with allergies
- Includes peas
- Label reads for puppies and dog
3. Victor Elite Canine for Large Breed Puppies and Dogs
This Victor formula is designed for larger breeds of puppies and dogs. It features glucosamine and chondroitin to help promote healthier joints and bones while being high in protein and low in fat to ensure healthy weight management. We also like that this formula features the fatty acids, vitamins, amino acids, and nutrients dogs need to promote better digestion and immune health. The guaranteed analysis of this food reads at 25% Crude Protein, 14% Crude Fat, 4% Crude Fiber, and 9% moisture.
Our biggest issue with this dog food is like with other Victor formulas it says for both puppies and dogs. Adult dogs have different nutritional needs than puppies and should be kept on an adult formula.
- Chicken is the main ingredient and prime source of protein
- Low in fat for weight management
- Hearty dry food is high in protein
- Labeled for dogs and puppies
What Other Users Are Saying

- Dog Food Guide – “The brand uses four core ingredients in every pet food recipe to ensure a quality standard and that your pet has the best chance of healthy, effective digestion.”

Conclusion
While Victor dog food is a solid brand that deserves praise, we do wish it had a dedicated puppy formula. While we understand that all-life stage dog food is safe for dogs of all ages, we aren’t 100% thrilled with feeding adult dogs food that is formulated for pups. If you have no issues with this, then by all means, feel free to feed your pup any of the Victor products that say “dog and puppy” on them. You’ll be pleased with the amount of protein, fats, and carbs you’ll find inside.
