Shameless Pets Dog Treats Review 2025: Our Expert’s Opinion

Dogster_Shameless Pets Dog Treats Review

Review Summary

Our Final Verdict

We give Shameless Pets’ dog treats a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

Shameless Pets is a pet food company that makes both dog and cat treats out of upcycled ingredients — meaning they use surplus and misfit produce (think jumbo blueberries and leftover post-Halloween pumpkins) to make their products. This eliminates food waste from agricultural production, all while utilizing nutritious foods to create high-quality and healthy treats for your fur babies.

Given Shameless Pets’ push towards sustainability for all, their products are perfect for the eco-conscious pet parent. Not only do Shameless Pets treats contain up to 30% upcycled ingredients, their recipes are also boosted with superfood ingredients like turmeric, flax, and chia seeds that are loaded with essential nutrients to support your pets’ health and happiness. With a variety of fun flavors and recipes, Shameless Pets treats aid in things like healthy digestion, bones and joints, and also help relieve behavioral issues like anxiety.

All in all, our humble opinion is that you are getting a ton of bang for your buck with Shameless Pets dog treats. I tried out two different dog treat recipes on my 4-year old chihuahua-terrier mix, Coco. Read on to learn how both were an instant hit for the both of us.

Where are Shameless Pets dog treats produced?

Shameless Pets products are made in the USA and ships anywhere within the United States and to Canada. Their products can be found at select pet supply stores, grocery stores, as well as online.

The “We Be Salmon” Calming Chews

Which type of dogs are Shameless Pets dog treats most suited for?

Shameless Pets’ nutritionist-crafted treats are made of natural ingredients and loaded with superfoods for optimal health benefits. Their recipes are free from grain, wheat, soy, corn, and artificial flavoring to reduce allergies and other negative reactions. All dogs can benefit from these specially made treats, primarily dogs who have certain health and/or behavioral issues.

What primary ingredients does each recipe contain?

Of the dog treats we tried, the “Lobster Roll(Over)” soft baked treats offer healthy hip and joint support, while the “We Be Salmon” calming chews are made to promote anxiety relief.

The “Lobster Roll(Over)” baked treats contain glucosamine to support healthy hips and joints. Glucosamine is a natural compound found in cartilage that cushions our joints, which is why taking glucosamine supplements helps relieve joint pain and inflammation. As glucosamine is harvested from the shells of shellfish or made in a lab, the lobster flavor of these delicious treats is only fitting, of which Coco was a fan.

The other ingredients in the “Lobster Roll(Over)” include sunflower meal, lobster, potato, flaxseed meal, coconut glycerin, syrup, sunflower oil, kelp, chondroitin sulfate, and mixed tocopherols (a preservative). Aside from the preservatives, most of the ingredients are natural and good for your pups’ health.

The “We Be Salmon” hemp chews were Coco’s favorite. Her eyes lit up any time I reached for the bag. Fortunately for me, giving her these treats benefited me too as they seemed to calm her down a bit. Made for anxiety relief, these chews contain hemp seed powder, as research shows hemp products are effective for reducing anxiety. Other naturally calming ingredients found in these treats include chamomile, passion flower, thiamine, valerian root, and Suntheanine.

What’s more, these treats are made with fresh wild-caught salmon and salmon oil, which work together to support healthy skin and coat for your dog. The tasty salmon flavor was an added bonus for Coco.

Are Shameless Pets’ flavors tasty and enjoyable for dogs?

While I can’t speak for all dogs, I can say that Coco is a bit on the pickier side with which foods she likes. She has surprised me by turning down some tasty offerings before. For example, she was not a fan of some bacon-flavored treats I’ve given her before — a flavor most dogs drool over!

Of both Shameless Pets treats we tried, Coco’s favorite was the “We Be Salmon” calming chews. A bit of a surprise to me, as she has turned her nose up at some premium salmon sashimi I’ve given her before, but these salmon-flavored chews were an instant hit with her. She also likes the “Lobster Roll(Over)” baked treats, though noticeably less. She wouldn’t get as excited about them, and she always took longer to eat them (likely also because they are bigger).

With various flavors and types of treats to choose from, you are bound to find one (or more) Shameless Pets treats that your pet is bound to like. In addition to the flavors, Shameless Pets puts a lot of thought and consideration into the quality of ingredients used, which your pets are sure to benefit greatly from as well.

Are Shameless Pets’ flavors tasty and enjoyable for dogs?

Shameless Pets’ dog treats are very reasonably priced depending on the type of treats and the size of the bag you’re purchasing. They also offer variety packs containing five, six, and twelve bags of different treats such as their “Puppy Love Variety Pack”, “Plant-based Variety Pack”, and their “Best Sellers Variety Pack”. The variety packs are a great option that provides you with bulk-buy savings when you consider the quantity and variety that you’re getting.

Reviews of the Shameless Pets’ Dog Treats We Tried

Let’s take a closer look at both flavors of Shameless Pets dog treats in a little more detail:

    1. The “Lobster Roll(Over)” Soft Baked Treats

The “Lobster Roll(Over)” Soft Baked Treats

These savory lobster-flavored treats are like a fancy lobster dinner packed into small soft-baked cookies for your dog. Both tasty and nutritious, your dog is bound to love these rich flavor-packed treats while also enjoying the many health benefits from its high-quality ingredients.

Made to support hip and joint health, the “Lobster Roll(Over)” treats are naturally packed with glucosamine to help relieve joint pain and discomfort caused by arthritis, inflammation, or worn down cartilage from old age.

These treats are also made free from grain, corn, soy, and artificial flavors to reduce the chance of allergies or other negative reactions. Though, be aware that they are lobster flavored, in case your dog has a shellfish allergy.

True to Shameless Pets’ mission of utilizing upcycled ingredients to reduce food waste, these “Lobster Roll(Over)” treats are responsibly sourced to support sustainability for all. For every six bags made, one pound of upcycled food was rescued and used to reduce food waste and greenhouse gas emissions.

    • Made with healthy, high-quality ingredients
    • Contains glucosamine for healthy hip and joint support
    • Free of grain, corn, soy, and artificial flavors that may cause allergies or negative reactions
    • Packed with rich lobster flavor for your dogs’ enjoyment

    • The treats are a bit too big for smaller dogs (I had to break it into smaller pieces)

    2. The “We Be Salmon” Calming Chews

The “We Be Salmon” Calming Chews

Although small in size, these calming chews pack quite a punch of flavor and nutrients for your dog.

Made to help reduce anxiety caused by separation, loud noises, new and unfamiliar surroundings, motion sickness, or other stimuli, the “We Be Salmon” calming chews are specially made to encourage natural relief for anxiety, as well as for hyperactive or overly aggressive behavior. Naturally calming ingredients including hemp, chamomile, passion flower, thiamine, valerian root, and Suntheanine all work together to make these calming chews the perfect supplement for your nervous dog.

Additionally, these chews are made with fresh wild-caught salmon and salmon oil to support healthy skin and coat. Not to mention, that rich salmon flavor makes these an instant favorite with your pup!

Free of any wheat, soy, corn, and artificial flavors, these calming chews are safe for your dog with a reduced chance for any allergic or otherwise negative reactions.

Like with the “Lobster Roll(Over)” soft baked chews and many other Shameless Pets treats, these calming chews are responsibly sourced in an effort to reduce food waste and support sustainability. One pound of food is rescued and upcycled to make every six bags of these chews — significantly helping in the cause to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

    Pros
    • Made with healthy, high-quality ingredients
    • Contains hemp seed powder and other naturally calming ingredients to help relieve anxiety
    • Contains salmon and salmon oil to promote a healthy coat and skin
    • Free of wheat, corn, soy, and artificial flavors that may cause allergies or negative reactions
    • Packed with rich salmon flavor for your dogs’ enjoyment
    • Responsibly and sustainably sourced
    Cons
    • Contains preservatives and other non-natural ingredients

Our Experience With Shameless Pets Dog Treats

Overall, both Coco and I had a positive experience with both Shameless Pets dog treats we tried. I was pleased with the quality and presentation of the products, and Coco was a big fan of the taste of both treats.

For Coco, both treats were tasty enough to get excited each time I gave her one. Her favorite was the “We Be Salmon” Calming Chews, hands down. Any time I reached for the bag, she would perk up and wag her tail out of sheer excitement.

As for my observations of her behavior, these chews made a slight but noticeable difference in Coco’s anxiety. I have noticed her being a bit calmer and more relaxed as of late. Maybe if I continue giving them regularly, more often, or more at a time (they are small enough that giving two at a time seems like a safe bet), I may notice more of an overall difference with her anxious tendencies.

Though not as much, Coco also liked the “Lobster Roll(Over)” soft baked chews. My observation was that she would get just as excited when I reached for the bag, but once I gave her the treat her excitement would go down a bit (probably from realizing they weren’t the calming chews instead). She also took longer to eat these treats, whereas she would scarf down the “We Be Salmon” chews. Again, this may be due to the difference in size and texture of the treats. In any case, she still ate them! And she doesn’t eat things she doesn’t like.

As far as the health benefits involved, it’s obviously hard to note whether her hips and joints have seen an improvement from these treats. Being that Coco is a dog with shorter legs and a longer back (like Dachshunds, Corgis, and Beagles), she is predisposed to developing conditions like Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) and other joint problems at some point in her life. For this reason, I am all for giving her treats that are specially formulated to help promote healthy joints early on as a preventative measure, even if the benefits can’t be exactly measured just yet.

    Conclusion

Shameless Pets dog treats offer you and your fur baby great value in several ways.

Many pet owners prioritize the quality of any food or treats given to their pet. Shameless Pets’ dog treats are made with high-quality, healthy, and natural ingredients packed with nutrients and flavor. On top of that, the fact that their treats are specially formulated to support different health and behavioral issues combined with their reasonable pricing are reasons enough for customers to continue coming back.

I am also a big fan of Shameless Pets’ unique mission to reduce food waste and greenhouse gas emission. Knowing that every bag of dog treats is made using rescued food that would otherwise be wasted makes me feel good as a consumer — like I’m doing my own small part to be a better global citizen. By simply giving my dog high-grade, nourishing, and delicious treats that she loves, I am supporting Shameless Pets’ noble venture towards creating a positive lasting impact on the planet.
