When it comes to your dog’s health, Ollie pet food is one fresh-food brand that is becoming increasingly popular. This brand is on a mission to feed dogs with only the best and freshest ingredients available. Unfortunately, as they grow in popularity, so do their prices.

Ollie isn’t the only fresh dog food brand out there, though. There are plenty of other companies for you to try, all with rave reviews from their customers. Take a look at our comparisons of the major Ollie dog food alternatives to determine which one is right for you and your dog.

  • The 5 Ollie Dog Food Alternatives Compared:

    1. Nom Nom Beef Mash vs Ollie Fresh Beef

Nom Nom Beef Mash vs Ollie Fresh Beef

We love that Nom Nom prides itself on making the highest-quality dog food possible. When we compared Nom Nom’s Beef Mash with Ollie’s Fresh Beef, we found that although Nom Nom provides human-grade dog food made from sustainably sourced ingredients, Ollie’s version has quite a bit more protein (12%) compared to Nom Nom’s 8%.

Both of these fresh dog food companies will deliver recipes developed by veterinary nutritionists so you can feel confident that your dog is eating well. Unfortunately, both companies are also quite pricey. We liked Nom Nom’s extra customization options, starting with the required questionnaire that ensures that your dog is only eating foods that are safe for them to eat.

Ollie offers higher protein levels, while Nom Nom has a bit more customization, so you can’t go wrong with either of these companies.

    2. Open Farm Homestead Turkey Gently Cooked Recipe vs Ollie Fresh Turkey

Open Farms Homestead Turkey Gently Cooked Recipe vs Ollie Fresh Turkey

If you’re looking to save money, you may already be interested in this Ollie alternative. Open Farm’s Turkey Gently Cooked Recipe contains 10% protein, compared with 11% protein in Ollie’s Fresh Turkey recipe. Both of these foods contain healthy ingredients like carrots and kale, but Open Farm offers the extra service of being able to trace each ingredient’s origin using the lot code. Open Farm is comparable in price to other fresh, gently-cooked food like Ollie, although they offer significant savings when you first sign up.

One thing we like about Open Farms is that you can make a one-time purchase, so your dog can try the food before you commit to a subscription. However, they don’t specialize in dog food alone, which could be a negative for those who want to purchase from a brand that focuses on dog nutrition like Ollie does.

    3. Spot & Tango Turkey & Red Quinoa Fresh Recipe vs Ollie Fresh Turkey

    Spot-Tango-Turkey-Red-Quinoa-Fresh-Recipe-vs-Ollie-Fresh-Turkey

    Crude Protein: 13%
    Crude Fat: 5%
    Crude Fiber: 1%

If you’re not concerned about the high price, Spot & Tango is one of the leading brands for clean dog food. Their Turkey & Red Quinoa recipe contains an impressive 13.69% protein, along with egg, apple, spinach, and protein. All of the ingredients are labeled as human-grade and free from artificial flavors, preservatives, and fillers. Compared to Ollie’s Fresh Turkey, Spot & Tango’s version has more protein, though Ollie’s has more fiber.

Unfortunately, Spot & Tango only offers delivery once per month, so you have to make sure you order enough the first time and have enough freezer space to keep a month’s worth of food. Ollie has a bit more flexibility, which can be convenient. All in all, we think Spot & Tango’s Turkey & Red Quinoa fresh dog food is the winner, with great ingredients and an impressive amount of protein.

    4. The Farmer’s Dog Fresh Chicken Recipe vs Ollie’s Fresh Chicken

The Farmer’s Dog Fresh Chicken Recipe vs Ollie’s Fresh Chicken

Another delivery service similar to Ollie comes from The Farmer’s Dog. This service only offers fresh food, but their chicken recipe is one that most dogs love. It contains 11% protein, compared to Ollie’s 10%. The Farmer’s Dog’s recipes, including the Fresh Chicken, are a little higher in fat compared to Ollie, but each one is made with locally sourced ingredients that meet AAFCO standards.

We found that the questionnaire that you must fill out for The Farmer’s Dog is a bit lengthy and time-consuming, but it does show how seriously they take your pet’s health. Their food also starts at a lower price point than Ollie’s. Overall, we think The Farmer’s Dog’s Fresh Chicken recipe is an excellent option at a reasonable price.

    5. PetPlate Lean & Mean Venison Recipe vs Ollie

PetPlate Lean & Mean Venison Recipe vs Ollie Fresh Lamb

For our final comparison, we looked at PetPlate’s Lean & Mean Venison Entree and Ollie’s Fresh Lamb. The biggest thing that sets Pet Plate Recipes apart from its competitors is that it offers fresh food recipes specifically for dogs with allergies. Often, dogs are allergic to the protein in their food rather than the other ingredients listed. We love that they offer a recipe with protein like venison instead of traditional choices like chicken and beef. Ollie does not offer unusual proteins. PetPlate also has five other recipes to choose from if this one doesn’t suit your dog.

PetPlate’s venison recipe only has 8% protein, which is quite a bit lower than the 11% in Ollie’s lamb recipe. But it also contains harder-to-digest ingredients like pasta and potatoes.

One common complaint from customers is that the containers the food comes in are relatively bulky and they have a hard time fitting them into their freezers. The food is also lower in protein but beats all other brands on this list, including Ollie, when it comes to the 3% fiber content.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Compare the Ollie Alternatives

Not every fresh dog food delivery service is the same. Each brand offers its own unique recipes, nutritional values, and range of products that might sway your decision. Either way, switching to fresh dog food has a lot of other benefits aside from giving your dog the healthiest food possible. Keep in mind that these foods will almost always be more expensive than traditional kibble. There is a reason for it, and you’ll likely notice a difference in your pet’s health within a matter of weeks.

    Fresh Food vs Dry Food

Dog food brands that offer fresh, human-grade recipes are becoming more popular. The dog food industry realizes just how much we care about our pets, and the demand for quality food sources is on the rise. One thing fresh food offers that kibble doesn’t is higher moisture content and gentle cooking so that none of the nutrition gets cooked out.

    Ingredients

The ingredients list is the first thing you should look at whenever buying new pet food. When it comes to fresh food, simpler ingredients are usually better. You want to avoid anything that has artificial fillers, flavors, or preservatives. These are not good for your dog and are not necessary to include in their diet.

    Budget

As we mentioned before, you’re going to have a hard time finding fresh foods at a low price. Still, there are ways to work these plans into your budget. You also have to remember that you’re paying for freshness and quality rather than artificial junk.

    Customization

What we love most about all of the brands on this list is that they take time to get to know your dog. Companies ask questions about your dog’s weight, breed, allergies, and activity level. All of these play an essential role in what your dog should be eating and how much of it they should be eating.

    Conclusion

When it comes to fresh dog food, these are some of the most popular Ollie alternatives on offer. Open Farm offers a great selection of food at a great value. And Spot & Tango features amazing protein levels and excellent ingredients. At the end of the day, we all want our dogs to be eating the best food possible. If Ollie isn’t the brand for you, then some of the dog foods on our list could be a great alternative.
