Melissa Shapiro

Melissa Shapiro, DVM, is a small-animal veterinarian, author, speaker, and animal welfare advocate. She is the creator and driving force behind the social media phenomenon Piglet, the deaf blind pink puppy. Her nonprofit, Piglet International Inc., works to implement the Piglet Mindset® Educational Program, an authentic teaching approach and school visit program emphasizing positivity, compassion, and kindness in schools across the USA. Piglet Mindset program resources are housed on the website pigletmindset.org. Her children’s book, Piglet Comes Home, and her memoir, Piglet, the unexpected story of a deaf blind pink puppy and his family, available online and in bookstores, have become an integral part of the Piglet Mindset Educational Program. Dr. Shapiro lives in CT with her husband Warren, 7 rescued dogs, and 3 rescued birds.
