woman playing with her pets When you are a pet parent, you want only the very best for your pets. Whether that pet is a dog, bird, cat, or some other form of pet, many people prefer to do their shopping for pet products online.

However, there are brick-and-mortar stores that offer pet products as well. PetSmart has been offering pet products for quite some time now, but if you’re looking for other alternatives, you might not be sure where to find them.

Luckily, we’ve rated a few game-changing PetSmart alternatives into one convenient place complete with in-depth reviews.

If you’re still unsure about ordering your pet products online instead of heading to a brick-and-mortar store, don’t forget to view the guide at the bottom of our reviews. For a few reasons, online pet product ordering is a great idea in our opinion. So, read on below and see if you agree!

  • The 6 Best PetSmart Alternatives Compared

    1. Chewy vs PetSmart

    chewy vs petsmart

Our best overall pick for a PetSmart Alternative is Chewy. This site offers food, pet accessories, toys, treats, and pharmacy products. They offer auto-shipping and also offer extra savings for anyone who signs up. They also offer free one-to-two-day shipping on some orders and provide products for all types of pets, with 24/7 customer service available.

The only drawback to this service we found is that they don’t ship to Alaska and Hawaii.

    2. Petco vs PetSmart

    Petco vs PetSmart

An excellent PetSmart alternative for the money goes to Petco. They offer auto-shipping and offer pet supplies, food, insurance, grooming services, vet services, adoption services, toys, treats, and more, all at affordable prices. The site also offers “Pal’s” rewards and Petco services, as well as a pup box, so you can spoil your dog with boxes every month in style.

They do tend to have a lot of backorders and charge higher prices for shipping, and some customers have complained about their customer service.

    3. BarkBox vs PetSmart

    Barkbox vs Petsmart

An interesting choice is BarkBox. While it doesn’t have as much as PetSmart, Chewy, or Petco in most departments, it offers a monthly subscription box that auto-ships and is tailored to match your dog no matter what breed or size. The company sends high-quality toys and treats and offers a money-back guarantee if you (or your pooch) aren’t completely satisfied.

We found that some of the toys could be choking hazards to larger dogs due to small pieces, and some of the toys were too small for larger breeds. In addition, some customers don’t like the automatic renewal because it does come automatically out of your bank account each month—though it is easy to cancel if you need to.

    4. PupRwear vs PetSmart

    PupRwear vs PetSmart

At number four on our list sits PupRwear. This is a designer and custom-made doggie clothing and couture site. This shop carries doggie clothes, accessories, harnesses, collars, beds, toys, and more. The clothes are made by famous designers, and are as cute as they can be. The fact that PupRwear also has a doggie birthday club is adorable and part of why it made our list. The site ships internationally, which can’t be said for most of the alternatives on our list. If you’re looking for a designer alternative to get accessories and such for your beloved pooch, then this is the perfect alternative to PetSmart.

The only drawback we found is that the clothes and accessories can be quite expensive, and some customers complained the quality of the products was lacking at times considering what you pay.

    5. Naked Beasts vs PetSmart

    Naked Beasts vs PetSmart

At number five on our list sits Naked Beasts. They offer treats, chews, toys, supplements, and even pet-safe candles. The treats are perfect as meal toppers to get your pet interested in eating, and dogs seem to love the taste and texture of the treats and chews. The site carries supplements, which some sites on the list don’t, and the fact that they carry pet-safe candles is great.

Some of the treats were reported as being too tough for smaller dogs to chew by pet parents, and there were a few customer service complaints as well.

    6. Allivet vs PetSmart

    Allivet vs PetSmart

Last but not least on our list of the best PetSmart alternatives is Allivet. This is a trusted pharmacy for medicines for pets of all kinds. They are fully licensed and provide an auto-ship option too. This site carries over 3,000 products, so you should have no problem getting a prescription filled for your pet or finding anything you need. They offer free shipping on orders over $49 as well.

There have been problems reported of customers having problems canceling their auto-shipments, and the customer service is said to be lacking at times.

Buyer’s Guide: Choosing Where to Buy Pet Products Online

Now that we’ve concluded our reviews of our six choices of the best PetSmart alternatives for this year, we’ll move into our guide on what we think is the best reasons to order your pet products online.

    petsmart-logo

    Convenience

The most widely recognized benefit of ordering pet products online is, of course, convenience. No longer will you have to stop on the way home from work to pick up treats, foods, toys, or in some cases, even prescriptions. Instead, it can all be done with the click of a mouse and delivered right to your door.

    Greater Variety Available

If you’ve ever gone to the pet store or your local Walmart, only to find they didn’t have what you were looking for, or much at all for that matter, then you already know what we’re talking about.

You’ll be able to find a lot more products online and in different colors, varieties, styles, and sizes as well.

    More Cost-Effective

Most of the time, but not always, buying pet products online is a more cost-effective option than driving to a brick-and-mortar store to pick things up. Easy ordering online saves you a ton in gas and mileage on your car, it also saves you energy and time, and you can’t put a price tag on that.

These are just a few of the top reasons to buy your pet products online. Also, remember, the less time you spend out buying pet products, the more time you can spend with your pet, and that is priceless!

    Closing Thoughts

This concludes our reviews of six PetSmart alternatives. While there are many different sites out there to choose from, these are some of the very best. Our favorite overall is Chewy for the extra savings and 24/7 customer service. The best choice for the money goes to Petco for their affordability and all the services they offer. They also have retail stores for those who like to do their pet shopping in person.

We hope our reviews have helped you find the perfect alternative to PetSmart you’ve been looking for.
