Ratings and Reviews
I spent a night here once during the winter time and mommy requested that I get a bath before she picked me up. Mommy thought this was a really nice place, but a few months later she ended up getting a job here as a bather. She only worked one day and quit. Things are VERY disorganized in the bathing area. The bathers wanted mommy to bathe two or three dogs at one time, which mommy refused to do for safety reasons. The other bathers would also leave a pet unattended in the tub, while they turned their backs on it to dry another. Also, they did not have any warm air dryers.....they use regular cool air box fans as dryers. Brrrrrrr! That was a couple of years ago, things could have changed since then, but mommy's not going to chance it by taking us there anymore. Good Luck if you decide to go.
GREAT DOG PARK!!
This is a fun dog park.....lots of trees and shade. There are walking trails, benches and wading pools. The entrance is double gated. Lots of cool places for dogs to explore and play with each other! Best of all....because all dogs have to go next door to register and receive a free dog tag the first time they come to play (and at the beginning of each new year), you can be assured that any dogs you come in contact with are healthy and have been vaccinated, because you have to show proof of vaccinations the first time.
Brand new store.....
Although this store is brand new, they don't take very good care of the small animals they sell. My mommy visited this place a couple of weeks after they first opened and mommy was angered at how the small animals were already being neglected. The ferrets and bunnies had FILTHY water with poop in it. A large fish tank on display at the front of the store had GREEN water with a few fish swimming around in it. In the bird department, there was a poor little sick yellow canary sleeping in the small food bowl. he looked like he was fixin' to die. Because he was sleeping in the food bowl, the other canaries in the same cage were not able to eat if they ahd wanted to. In the kitten cages, the kittens had no litter boxes in their cages and were forced to poop everywhere and anywhere, even in their food bowls. It stunk very badly and no animal should have to live in those deplorable conditions.
BEWARE!!! This place has a REALLY bad reputation for needlessly putting animals to sleep before finding out whether or not they belong to anyone. In 2006 there was a huge controversy because BARC was euthanizing lost animals without scanning them for microchips, therefore, killing animals who could have been reunited with their families. Recently (Feb. 2007), BARC is once again under the microscope for having euthanized a lost and very much loved Chow Chow because they did not bother to check beneath the dogs fur and see that the dog was indeed wearing a collar with not one but TWO ID tags on it!!
Hope I never end up here :-(
I haven't had any experience with this place, however, a few years ago, mommy applied for a job here as an 'animal control officer'. They must have liked her, because they called her back for a follow up enterview. During this second interview mommy decided that she would interview them as well. her goal was to be an animal cruelty investigator, however HCAC does not offer than position. Mommy inquired about their method of euthanasia and they said that they use injection. Mommy then asked if they sedated the animal before euthanizing it and the head lady there said "not always". Then mommy asked if they used the "heart stick" method (a needle puncture to the heart to cause death, usually very painful for the animal). The head lady looked at mommy and finally said, "Yes, sometimes I do." Mommy then told her that she was sorry but she did not feel she could work for them since her goal was to help animals NOT pick them up and bring them to the shelter to be killed. I have to give them only a two rating. Regardless of their humane education, their methods of euthanasia is unacceptable.
What can I say.....
My mommy works for this company, so you know it's gotta be grrrreat!!!! Seriously, she and her boss take excellent care of people's pets, treating each as their own!
These people have always been helpful when mommy has found a lost or stray dog. If they have not been able to accept him they try hard to place the dog somewhere by directing mommy who to contact, etc.... Often, they call back to check and see if she found someone to take the dog. They seem very caring.
Dogster is Grrrrrrreat!!
Dogster is the bestest place to meet new friends!!! I've met so many friends through Dogster and I know they will be lifetime friends. Thanks Dogster!!
They are not often able to accept homeless animals because they are often at capacity, however, they have always been helpful in giving us advice and directions in someone else who may be able to help us when we find a lost or homeless animal.
They are usually full to capacity but on several occassions, I was lucky enough to have them accept a stray dog I had rescued off the streets. They are also very good about returning my phone calls and directing me to other organizations who might be able to help me if they are unable to.
Thrifty is Nifty
We donate our used items to this thrift shop several times a year. They have a large selection of clothing, books, furniture, electronics, etc....
We've only visited this office once and that was because my feline brother Cole got sick late one afternoon before a weekend and our regular vet was booked and would not see him. Mommy called numerous clinics in our area and none would agree to see Cole because it was close to closing time...... but when she called Kings Crossing, they told her to bring him in. Five paws to them for their care and dedication in seeing a patient that had never been to their office before!!
We've never visited this vet for medical services, however, mommy has met Dr. Keese at this office. Once when she found a lost dog and wasn't able to keep it at home, she took it to this vet office to check for a microchip. Dr. Keese offered to keep the lost dog free of charge until either the owner could be located or a rescue agreed to take him.
Awesome walking paths!!!
I LOVE walking on these paved paths...... so many exciting things to see and lots of trees and where there are lots of trees, there are lots of squirrels!!! Woof!!! The shade that these trees provide make it comfortable to walk even during the hottest part of the day. And they go on for miles and miles, so you never run out of places to walk.
Dog-gone grrrreat park!!
This is my favorite dog park to visit, unfortunately it is not close to my house so I don't get to go very often. I don't even like water, but when I visited the Millie Bush bark park, mommy and daddy were so surprised when they saw me wading in the pond! Even my little sister Kaci jumped off the platform and took a dip in the pond! Lots of room to run and play and meet other doggies.
