Some Top-Rated Businesses
Veterinarians & Specialists 260 Speed Hill Road Brooktondale, NY 14817 Hum Hollow Hospice started as a real entity after Hurricane Katrina. We are a very small group of people that with the help of our great community and veterinary drug companies were able to take 2 trips to New Orleans post Katrina. One of us Bridget Barry, DVM had been deployed to New Orleans with VMAT and made contacts with folks down there. It took the second trip to actually get the dogs from Plaquemine’s Parish. All in all we brought back 49 dogs and 14 cats. Some were placed with the Tompkins SPCA and Cayuga Dog Rescue- the rest from Hum Hollow. We also have received dogs from the Bahamas after the distemper outbreak post Hurricane Rita. And the darn Bridget went down to vaccinate dogs and in the past year over 20 have made their way to New York. Our most recent dogs have been special needs dogs- not just heartworm and Ehrlichia but dogs that need surgery to correct injuries. Between the donations of our wonderful community and the veterinary vendors we work with-we have had great success. Even after the rush of post Katrina donations we still receive help with medications from our friendly vendors. Our friend Brian Hunt of Penske truck rental made the use of his truck possible for 2 trips. Meadowridge Veterinary Hospital and the Boarding Barn have been more than generous in the ongoing efforts. That is where we work, but most of the animals are only there for a short time before going into foster. Pat’s Irish Kennels have really helped over the past year and a half when we have no room. We are always looking for donations- most of the foster dogs are at Sharon Garland or Bridget Barry’s houses. As of 6/25/07 we have 3 Katrina and 3 Bahaman dogs- plus a local dogs to place. Our hope this year is to become Not for Profit- time.time time, where do we find more of it. Working in a veterinary hospital we are able to take some of the more hard luck health cases- the expenses are paid for from our packets when there is nothing left in the donation account- so donations are always welcome.
