This is a great beach to walk your dog(s) on. Just go to the end of Mile road and park. The round trip walk of the beach is about 2.5 miles. You can't beat the view and there are little poop bags at both ends of the beach--so there is no reason not to pick up after your pets. Check the website for summer dog walking hours. Dress warm for those winter walks--they can be chilly!!

Safe Haven is an all-volunteer, registered 501(c)3 non profit organization, dedicated to finding solutions to the pet overpopulation problem in Southern Maine. We believe that by joining forces, networking and learning together, we can save even more lives. So Safe Haven is building a coalition of shelters and rescue groups in southern York County. We promote spaying and neutering, adoption of shelter and rescue animals, humane rescue of feral cats and educating our community on how they can help and become involved.

The combined length of Drake's Island and Laudholm Beaches is 940 yards. Drake's Island Beach is yet another beautiful white sandy beach edged by sand dunes, sea grasses, and sea walls. Drakes Island Beach is quieter than other Wells beaches because it's away from the main beach and there are no houses along this section of sand. The beach ends at Laudholm Farm Beach and the Rachel Carson bird sanctuary, so it's a great beach for nature lovers. Restrooms are available. There is a parking fee.

275-foot Moody Beach, south of Wells Beach, used to be a public beach, but as the result of a lawsuit won by oceanfront property owners, the public is only allowed on the beach if they are "fishing, fowling, or navigating." The beach is reachable by taking Bourne Avenue off Route 1 and turning left at Ocean Avenue.

BIN is a nonprofit organization that receives it's funding from individuals, fundraising items and events and by our adoption fee. Keep in mind, your adoption fee will go towards our next homeless, abused or neglected Boxers medical bill to ensure good health before adoption, giving another dog a second chance at life. Our purpose is to help as many homeless Boxers as possible by providing them with veterinary care, including spay, neuter, shots and temperament evaluations. We then place them in safe, friendly foster care and evaluate them. Once evaluated, it is our goal to match them up with their forever families. We rescue boxers in the following states: Maine, Mass, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
