if it moves,- I'll chase it! |
| Barked: Thu May 23, '13 7:16am PST | | | | | I've seen something similar with my dog Addie from time to time. It sounds to me like she was done playing ( or the other dog was playing) and got a bit nippy to try and tel lthe other dog off, but the other dog kept insisting so it turned into a fight. Addie has done this before with one of her best ' play buddies'. I would keep a closer eye on the dogs and see if one looks like its trying to slowly go away, showing stressed / tired signals, or just doesnt seem interested anymore. It might help..
we avoid dog parks and just have play dates with her friends so its much easier to keep an eye on them. Plus, I thin ksome dogs get over stimulated at parks.. not the best for everyone as mentioned above.

Raw Food Diet > Is this truth or another fat lie from companies?

if it moves,- I'll chase it! |
| Barked: Thu May 16, '13 8:49am PST | | | | | As stated before, there is a difference usually, calories, fat, protein, and often calcium / phosphorus ratios. The reason why they have these foods is because for most people they do not wantto have to think about it and just replace with an adult food thats less calories etc when the dog gets older.. as the metabolism slows down, less of these are required, so for some people its easier just to get a different food, rather than take the time to figure out exactly how much to feed and monitor weight on the same food once a dog reaches maturity. Its not 100% needed, especially if you know what you're doing. but, I think most people dont | | | | |

if it moves,- I'll chase it! |
| Barked: Tue May 14, '13 6:16am PST | | | | | I think the main problem is that these products are available to everyone to buy on their own, try to train on their own, and can adjust on their own. If you have the average person adjusting it, they may do way too much or way too little, give the dog one 'shock' and think the dog is trained. If someone wants to do it, have it professionally done and professionally trained. Those systems the owner can NOT adjust the collar, but the trainer does. A properly trained dog over several weeks or even a month or two is very unlikley to go accross if the correct steps are taken. Not taking a stance either way, just pointing out what i've seen. | | | | |

Raw Food Diet > heartworm preventative...yes or no?

if it moves,- I'll chase it! |
| Barked: Tue May 14, '13 6:09am PST | | | | | I have no problem whatsoever giving Addie heartworm prevention. We currently use sentinel. I live in the midwst ( ohio ) and its very prevelent here. Being a vet tech, i've even seen a dog come up positive in the winter at our clinic. ( My guess it was bitten shortly before the frost.. we had a late winter last year) and she did not give heartworm prevention over the winter.
It is much easier and cheaper to prevent than to treat. Again, I suppose it is about where you live, but for the most part I would almost always suggest it.

Raw Food Diet > Partial RAW?

Addie is mostly raw, but does get kibble now and then ( Orijen).
I certainly feel whole foods are much better than processed foods for an entire lifetime, human, canine or otherwise. Theres been numberous studies to show natural source vitamins offer protection from diseases ( no known protection from synthetics) and are better absorbed than synthetic versions, which is what is in kibble. I have nothing against kibble, but when I can feed raw, I do

If you're worried about vomiting, give a tiny bit before, and at dinner time, give a full meal. Going a few extra hours without much food wont hurt

| Barked: Wed Apr 10, '13 3:39pm PST | | | | | Really whatever I can find, as long as it's close to the 80% 10% 10%
Typically:
chicken thigh, chicken liver
duck neck, ground mixture, pig brain, egg
Frog legs, beef kidney/heart, a little bit of ground meat
Rabbit portion with organs attached ( on eto two pieces of cut up whole rabbit)
goat chunks, has some organ attached but I usually throw in some liver or kidney as well, pig brain if I still have some
I throw in sardines, whiting, raw pig ear / pig trotters, chicken feet, bargin bin steak or ground beef and other random goodies when I find them ( in ratio of course).. I dont have a set 'meal plan' but usually this about the stuff I feed.
Every once in a while I will throw some veggies in for a treat, because Addie likes them
