Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog > AKC status of Stumpies in the US

The AKC only moves dogs into the "accepted" status AFTER a breed has spent time in the miscellaneous category. The breeds moved into the Westminster shows this year have been AROUND for decades even if you have never heard of them. AKC requires several contingencies be met before a breed can even MEET the requirements for Misc. status. One requirement is that the breed club must have members in almost ALL 50 states. But the main requirement is that ALL dogs within the move be registered with a breed club that has maintained UNBROKEN pedigrees all the way back to the land of origin. So while you may think since there are bunches of 'purebred' dogs out there, the question is, can you prove it? Without a registrar, it is hard to maintain a pedigree database. Without a Club it is difficult to keep a registration protocol. In a nutshell, that is why the Stumpy has not yet moved to AKC. Hope this helps answer your question.
