Raw Food Diet > Raw and Kibble???
Latte

| Barked: Wed May 23, '12 4:26pm PST | | | | | That is how we slowly worked our way into 100% raw. They ate a combination of Raw, Kibble, & Home Cooking. No problem at all.
Eventually, my dogs would eat around the kibble and leave those nuggets at the bottom of the bowl It didn't matter what brand of kibble I fed them -- they weren't eating it. They'll still eat home cooking (safe leftovers).
Last year, after getting a Nature's Variety coupon, I tried kibble again. Same results. They looked at the kibble like it is from Mars. Funny thing is that they will eat kibble if I offer it up as a treat.

Raw Food Diet > I have commenced the raw diet, and i have questions!

I've been feeding my dogs raw since 2006 and they are doing great.
If I had a puppy and was new to raw, I would start with pre-made raw (Nature's Variety, Primal, etc.) and/or raw mixed with a supplement like Sojos or Honest Kitchen. Why? I'm more concerned about my dogs getting a perfectly balanced diet during the growing years and their later years than I am during their middle years.
If you research and make 100% sure you add in the right balance of muscle, bone, & organs, you will be fine.

Raw Food Diet > Does raw make the stomach super sensitive to anything non-raw?

My objective by getting away from commercial dog food with both raw and home cooking was to help them to develop cast-iron tummies. Occasionally, the oldest of the pack (a rescue) may get the spurts but he has only been on raw for 2 of his 10+ years on earth where the younger ones have have been raw fed most of their lives.
Although my furkids eat mostly raw meat, they eat selective leftovers, fruit, veggies, and the occasional canned/cooked meat. I let them eat a doggy cookie every now and then. They have happy tummies and that makes me happy too.

Food & Nutrition > Anybody see the Dogster Vet blog? "Why are People So Passionate About Dog Food?"
Latte

| Barked: Tue Sep 14, '10 12:48pm PST | | | | | I skimmed the blog and the comments. Sounds like the "vet" just wants his 15 minutes of fame. I don't think people talk more passionately about dog food than other topics. It is just that they will talk about dog food on DOG forums. No one here wants to hear my strong political opinions so he won't hear how passionate I am about them on these forums.
He needs a life. | | | | |

Raw Food Diet > Benifits of feeding store-bought raw meat over pre-packaged formulas?

| Barked: Tue Sep 14, '10 12:27pm PST | | | | | I bounce around from Nature's Variety and DIY raw. I do more of the latter due to cost. Usually it is a chicken wing with a ground meat (turkey/beef) mixed with some Honest Kitchen. (Shhh - I sometimes serve up Evangers cooked chicken just I bought a case at a good price.)
If I was a wealthy woman, I'd feed more Nature's Variety because of the simplicity and they REALLY like the medallions. They like Primal duck formula best but that is even more expensive so they haven't had any in years.
Yesterday, I broke down and bought 3 bags of NV -- 2-lamb and 1 venison. They went crazy over the lamb. That is the main reason I like NV -- the variety. How else can a city woman serve her dogs bison?

Raw Food Diet > Survival of Salmonella in food bowls

| Barked: Tue Sep 14, '10 12:17pm PST | | | | | I've fed raw since 2006, wash the stainless steel bowls weekly, and my dogs are always very healthy. I wash my hands after feeding my dogs and I'm very healthy.
If you have weak and sickly dogs or people in your home, take all of those cleaning precautions. If not, stop worrying about it and enjoy life.

Raw Food Diet > Pork Feeders
Latte

| Barked: Wed Apr 29, '09 9:24am PST | | | | | Are those of you who feed pork changing anything with the influenza A virus subtype H1N1 (swine flu) outbreak?
Personally, I don't buy pork because humans don't eat it in our home. In fact, with the exception of a little premade raw, all of the meats in the freezer for the pack can be eaten by humans also. We just cook it for the humans. But then, the humans don't eat much of any meat so the dogs really luck out.

Food & Nutrition > Nutro Pet Food Being Investigated by FDA
Latte
Fetchaholic |
| Barked: Tue Apr 28, '09 5:21pm PST | | | | | It is like playing Roulette with our furkids' lives. For the most part, prepare Sojos+grocery store/USDA meat or Honest Kitchen+grocery store/USDA meat. If I hear anything at all about Sojos & Honest Kitchen, I'll quickly pull them out of the equation.
These recalls and investigations will continue until there is true regulation and reform in the industry. Until that happens, pet food companies will continue to put bad products on the shelves. They only care about making money. The damages for killing our dogs is very low as compared to the profits. They will only pay out for the "actual value" of your pet unless you can prove otherwise. Very few pet owners are showing their dogs and those who do have their dogs insured anyway.
Even if they did pay big bucks for hurting my dogs, no price is worth it!
