The thing is...people in our karate organization will be arriving from Hawaii, Minnesota, San Francisco, Vegas, Missouri...etc. Many don't even know if they will be able to afford to attend until early next year. Our non-profit karate organization is more like a family reunion than a collegiate sporting event so everyone attending helps out at our events. How do you coordinate background checks (often taking 6 months or more) for large numbers of people in many different states and in time for the event?

I was told this is in response to the Penn State scandal. Seriously?! First off, Sandusky abused his own players not minors visiting the university. It would make more sense to have all university coaches background checked. We will be paying a rental fee for the gym and provide proof of liability insurance. That really should be enough. IMO.

The ISU lawyers are going to be at the next sports club meeting (Oct. 2) to "explain" the new rules. I'm currently writing down questions that are pooping into my mind.

I've had background checks in the past and the requesting entity always paid for the process. Implementing this new rule for an event like ours would be a nightmare IMO.

Beautiful pics everyone!

I've been dealing with hoop jumping at ISU for our karate tournament next July and was told today there is a new policy that everyone involved with helping run the event will need a background check. There are at least ten people per ring (usually 3 rings) plus the head table staff, t-shirt / equipment sales team, EMT staff, Hospitality/food concessions....etc. How do they expect anyone to run an event with that criteria? Background checks are costly and take minimum 6 months. Uggg...I need to figure something out and I'm bummed ISU has made it too difficult for a non-profit group to hold any event at their facilities.

I have had walking pneumonia. So glad I went in to see my doc.

We had a fire in old town on Friday in one of our historic buildings. The Monarch is a "total loss." All 15 residents made it out safe....no loss of life. One of those 15 is a student of mine. He will be staying with us for as long as it takes for him to re-establish himself.

Yesterday was a busy day in Pocatello. We had many activities going on....the Sagebrush Art Festival at ISU, the Pocatello Pump (rock climbing), the Greek Festival, C.W. Hog Pig Out (Cooperative Wilderness Handicapped Outdoor Group) fundraiser, and a couple of other things I can't remember. We went to the Art and Greek festival.

My husband has gone through radiation treatment for prostrate cancer. It made him very fatigued. We found a drink called "Zip Fizz" that helped with the fatigue. It's mostly B vitamins but because its liquid...it get absorbed faster. Costco carry's it. Rest and healflowers
