Mulder, yeah it's hard to find a good breeder of them. But they are just such awesome dogs! I never see them around and they really are just 'go anywhere, do anything' dogs. I got a black eye from an affectionate 'nudge' from one, and dislocated a couple fingers romping with another. They are a bit violently affectionatelaugh out loud

Shadow got loose when she was 5 months old and the crazy lady reported that she had attacked her. That didn't happen, but I did have AC at my door and they did an on the spot investigation and assessment. I was ticketed for having let her run 'at large' and given a pass on the aggressive dog complaint. I thanked him for being so nice and went inside to give myself a serious butt kicking for thoughtlessly leaving a door unlatched. Then I gave my puppy a hug and thanked the powers that be that there wasn't a car coming when she darted across the street.

Behavior & Training > Do shock collars hurt?

Shadow

Lets GO

Shadow did not like her e collar, it was a short lived experiment. It did not traumatize her, it seemed to irritate her a bit. She just got collar wise and no amount of conditioning was getting her over it.
She is not a bright dog, and she is super sensitive. My hope for her was freedom and I would have been willing to deal with her 'discomfort' to gain it for her. Most things in life are a trade off. I traded a clean house and sleep for a bunch of furry ingrates laugh out loud Now if I wanted to torture Shadow I'd break out the clicker. She has a much bigger issue with that thing.

Licenses here are triple what you pay, and I have three dogs or more. All of whom can climb jump and dig. Bud clears fences like nothing and when that fails he knocks them down or goes through them. This is not a breed thing it's a DOG thing. The best escape artist I ever met was a Shih Tzu.
I know it seems like everyone is down on you but you are really lucky. Your dog got loose, as he has before, and he bit someone. In many places he would be dead. Period. You need to take your lumps with grace. You were late paying, you left your dog unsupervised and you got caught.
And you owe Toto an apology, that was rude and uncalled for.

I was going to second the Soft Coated Wheaton, but if drool is out I suspect soggy beards are probably a no go as well. You hardly ever see them around but what about a Bull Terrier? They are great with kids, sturdy enough to take the rough-housing, intelligent, low shedding, medium sized and low on the drool factor. They don't need a ton of exercise, but they do need attention. Almost all the ones I've known were real Velcro dogs.

Guest, I'm sure you are trying to be helpful but I would like to know why German Shepherds are a bad idea around small animals, why neighbors would complain and why they can't track.

Shadow, don't let SSA discourage. Some lines are really prone to it, others not so much. In my experience the males are less prone then the females.

He's out! He is safe for the moment. Star thank you so much. If you have a friend there can you get me a heads up if things go sideways on him again. I am still willing to pay for any rehab, and if I need to I will bring him here.
It was Caroline that I talked to about him.

Grrrrrrrrr. Now they are saying they can't get him out of his kennel, so they are sending an evaluator to see what's really up. I have been in contact with the intake lady (Caroline?) They are aware that I will foot the bill for his rehab and expenses. But it sounds like they are backing out.
Now where is this senior lady you speak of?
