Flicka!
I just don't know if the training would suit me. I don't really want a difficult to train breed. Then again, if they're low energy I may not mind. As long as I don't have a hyper, difficult to train breed we're okay.
Then again, this is all future. Hypothetical for now. And I'm doing it because the other half fell in love with the two big boys he met.
I thought, "They're huge. They smell VERY doggie. They're leaning on me. Why is a ten-year old walking that puppy that is bigger than a lab? It's dragging her." Lol! I need to meet a few more before I make up my mind.

What!? That's hilarious! How the heck did that work out?
I bet y'all are living in dog park central and your neighbors are all thinking, "What. The. Heck. TWO crazy dog people?! This is outa control!" LOL!
I wish I were there too. Not enough dog people around here.

Agree with the Rottie! Our neighbor has one that is a total love bug IF you know his name, his family is home, and I don't pass his driveway with my half-his-size mongrels. If I don't follow those simple rules, I'm asking for it!
They swear he wouldn't harm a fly... PSH!

We went to a dog show not so long ago. My other half and I ran into a stunning Irish Wolfhound and it's puppy (by puppy, I mean it was already at my waist. )
Anyway, the other half FELL. IN. LOVE. and has mentioned them to me multiple times in the last few months.
"...Wouldn't it be fun..." he begins.
Well, I'll obviously contemplate the future with these lookers, ...but... I don't know that the temperament would actually fit into our lives (futuristic, of course).
I need to know what they are like
1. to live with.
2. to feed.
3. to vet.
4. to train.
Are they like those "sweet" but slightly pig-headed and totally unwilling to please Great Danes? How great are they REALLY with families. Are the puppies terrible?
Someone give me real-world information on these guys. I've gotten to where I don't believe books about dogs... or the internet. lol.

I absolutely love a calm lab. Sadly, here in Texas (especially the rural regions here in East Texas) often view dogs as little more than livestock, or a tool that they don't take care of (especially when they're used as hog dogs--usually kept in a pen outside until it's needed to track down a hog. At which point they get lost 1 in 3 times. Or gored 3 in 3 times. Except well-trained dogs who are actually kind of smart...these aren't usually labs though...ah...I digress).
My point is that I am unsure if I have ever met a well-bred field or bench Labrador. Only a couple of them that I have had the pleasure of playing with have been mellow.

Sabi, I died about the Great Danes. That is so true! The few I've met were not even remotely the dog I thought they were! Lol!
Princess/Bunny, you were both here. It's only been a few months since I've been away! And I remember your story all too well!
Fritz, I know you're right. The different strains of labs drives me bananas. I'm delighted to realize that there are mellow labs, but I'm afraid finding them would be a nightmare. And I'm Color biased because I think (wrong or right) that black labs have an extra boost of "nutziod" in them. I may be totally wrong, but the "calm" labs I've met are yellow or chocolate. Lol! My family still has a black lab mix (his mom was half-pibble half-black lab, dad was full black lab). He's calmed waaaayyyy down, but he's also almost 8 years old.
Skipper: I'm with ya on the terrier wagon. Our Pixie is one of a kind. And sometimes I think I'm more of a terrier person than anything! I used to say that I would NEVER own a terrier. Now one owns me! Lol!
