God says at least three times in the Bible to...
Exodus 20:12-16
"Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long on the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Thou shlat not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false wittness against thy neighbour."
God is saying that people who don't learn to honor their parents will not learn to honor life (kill), they will not learn to honor marriage (adultery), they will not learn to honor another's property (steal), and they will not learn to honor another's good name [bear a false wittness(lie)]. Everything stems from obediance and honor to parents.
"Honor thy father and thy mother" appears also, in Deuteronomy 5:16 and Ephesians 6:2. That means God really wants us to learn that and apply it. The Bible also says in Hebrews 13:7, 17, 24 to remember, obey, and salute "them which have the rule over you." Remeber means to learn from. We all know what obey means, immediatly, whole-heartedly, and happily. Salute means to show respect and honor. If the family does not get their focus right, then God says that He will "smite the earth with a curse." But if we honor our parents (we can honor our parents from youth to the grave) God says we will have a long happy life ("that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee")  |  |  | |  |
