I am so confused. I am training a standard poodle for a SD for my son. Animal control is making it sound like I have to have a trainer train him. What is the deal in california do I have to get a trainer or can I do it myself? I am a single mom of many and can not afford a trainer. Can someone explain the laws to me.

Hi, Black! I'm in California, too, and I don't understand why you are even involved with "Animal Control" about your training?? thinking
From what I understand, of course you can train on your own-as long as you are well informed about what you're doing. Maybe that's what they meant- like "Get a professional, you're not qualified." There's websites, books and advice from trainers at places like Petsmart and Petco for next to nothing. I'm new at this myself, first I need to get my CGC, then all the other, advanced and ongoing stuff.......I think others on the PSD group, or Service dogs group could help you with getting more information. Good Luck, and happy training! Sammy
