Hello all!
So my boyfriend and I are in a bit of a predicament. Long story short, his sister found a puppy and brought it home, decided she couldn't care for it, but didn't want him to be put down (he is a Pit Bull, though I know very little about the breed, I assume that the anti-cruelty society wasn't going to let him hang around forever) so she and their grandmother decided to keep him. Of course all these decisions were made while he was an adorable puppy. Now he is 70+ lbs., very aggressive towards any noise, anyone new, visitors, ect., he is not exercised so he rips up their apartment. We would take him, but he bullies our dog and he's too strong for me so it would all be on my boyfriend's shoulders. No one else is going to do anything, so we have to. I'm wondering what you all think, does anyone know a reputable trainer in the area (we live on the northside) or what steps we could take to improve this dog's quality of life. It breaks my heart but I have no idea where to start helping him.

You can try Alex Brooks in Des Plaines. I haven't used him but he seems to have a name. My roommate's Rottweiler has been aggressive to my cats, and they said they could help with a six-week program.

If you can get the aggression calmed down and if the owners can afford it, consider daycare, even if only once a week. It helps with the exercise and socialization.

Also, an easy way to exercise him is to take him to an enclosed tennis court and throw a ball around for him.
