Daddy, I Like School

Today my son said:

"Daddy, I like my school . . .
but I don't like to go to school."

I paused.

"How can this little boy give me so much to think about?"

Maybe it's because he talks straight without making it PC
(parentally or politically correct).

He speaks straight from the heart.

That's something that you rarely get out of adults, unless they
are either very angry or very drunk, then it's the worst of
what's in the heart.

"Daddy, I like my school . . . but I don't like to go to

I try my very best to make the working environment at my company
as pleasant as possible. For the most part I've succeeded.
The employees state that they like or love their job and the
work environment.

Yet. . .

"Daddy, I like my school . . . but I don't like to go to

I hear some employees saying in the truthfulness of my son's

"I like my job. . . but I don't like to come to work."

I am going to work with my son to get him to really like his

Something that you really like, you will like to do.

You won't hear someone say, "I really like chocolate chip
cookies, but I don't like to eat them."

You won't hear that. You may hear them say they struggle NOT to
eat them, but not that they don't like to eat them.

You won't hear, "I really like money, but I just don't want

You won't hear, "I really like compliments, but I don't want

Something that you really like, unless you are forbidden to do
it, or it's just too costly, you do it, especially if it's
somewhat expected that you do it.

That little statement made me start reevaluating how I spend my

Do you REALLY like it?

Do you REALLY like spending time with your family?

I'm not talking about in-laws and outlaws, but your immediate

What about the friend that you say you really like to talk to
but you haven't talked to or seen in months? Do you REALLY?

What about you saying that you like to go to church,
but you get antsy when it runs 15 minutes over.

Do you really?

What about_________________? (fill in the blank)

We all have these things that we claim to like, we just don't
want to do them.

I am going to start working with my son to help influence him to
like going to school. One way is to start asking him each day
about his day and going over his activities in school with him.

After all, I really like spending quality time with him.

Straight from the heart.

What do you REALLY like?

Be Strong In Your Mind
Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (II Corinthians 10hi5, NIV).

For Today
The other day, I was meditating on how our thoughts and our words stir up emotions on the inside of us. It's amazing that one little thought, one little reminder of something good or bad can change our whole countenance. Our emotions are so powerful. They can either rejuvenate us or drain us, and they influence whether or not we are going to approach life with an attitude of victory or an attitude of defeat. But it all starts with the thoughts in our minds. When we dwell on the wrong things–negative, self–defeating thoughts–it makes us weak and uncertain in our minds. Negative emotions get stirred up, and we waste precious time and energy. But, when we dwell on the right things, when we believe God and meditate on His promises, we become strong in our minds. We uplift and encourage ourselves as the Bible commands. Our emotions stay balanced, and we are able to approach life with an attitude of faith and victory.

I encourage you today to take inventory of your thought life. Let the Word of God make your mind strong so you can stand against all the attacks of the enemy. Don't focus on how big your problems are; instead, focus on how big your God is. Get your thoughts and words going in the right direction so you can stand strong in your mind and move forward in the path of blessing and fulness that God has prepared for you.

O Father, it is so easy for me to succumb to wrong thinking. When I start down the path of thoughts of discouragement, doubt and defeat, please send your Spirit throughout my being so that I am reminded and reprimanded to get my focus back on You. Thank you for loving me more than I am able to imagine. In the Name of Your Precious Son, Amen.

Old Barns............

Only years of standing in the weather, bearing the storms and scorching
sun, only that can produce beautiful barn wood.

A stranger came by the other day with an offer that set me to thinking.
He wanted to buy the old barn that sits out by the highway.
I told him right off he was crazy.
He was a city type, you could tell by his clothes, his car, his hands, and the
way he talked.
He said he was driving by and saw that beautiful barn sitting out in the tall
grass and wanted to know if it was for sale.
I told him he had a funny idea of beauty.

Sure, it was a handsome building in its day.
But then, there's been a lot of winters pass with their snow and ice and
howling wind.
The summer sun's beat down on that old barn till all the paint's gone, and
the wood has turned silver gray.
Now the old building leans a good deal, looking kind of tired.
Yet, that fellow called it beautiful.

That set me to thinking.
I walked out to the field and just stood there, gazing at that old barn.
The stranger said he planned to use the lumber to line the walls of his den
in a new country home he's building down the road.
He said you couldn't get paint that beautiful.
Only years of standing in the weather, bearing the storms and scorching
sun, only that can produce beautiful barn wood.

Then it came to me. We're a lot like that, you and I. We turn silver gray too...
and lean a bit more than we did when we were young and full of sap. But the
Good Lord knows what He's doing. And as the years pass He's busy using the
hard weather of our lives, the dry spells and the stormy seasons to do a job
of beautifying our souls that nothing else can produce.
And to think how often folks holler because they want life easy!

They took the old barn down today and hauled it away to beautify a rich
man's house.
And I reckon someday you and I'll be hauled off to Heaven to take on whatever
chores the Good Lord has for us on the Great Sky Ranch.

And I suspect we'll be more beautiful then for the seasons we've been
through here... and just maybe even add a bit of beauty to our Father's house.

May there be peace within you today.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

And...I do sincerely thank God for my wonderful friends and family who
love me even though I show signs of weathering.

Confess your faults, one for another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James 5:1

God does heal. He does it in two ways, through science and through faith. In healing, confession is important, for much illness results from buried resentments and guilt. Confession to a competent counselor releases these poisons, cleanses the mind and soul, thus stopping the passing on of diseased thoughts to the body. Effectual prayer, that is scientific prayer, is very powerful. The essence of the technique is confess your faults, pray with kindred spirits even if separated by distance, and enthusiastically (fervently) believe.

There can`t be a- limit for- awsomeness!

I Am a Christian
By Maya Angelou

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!

I was born to- love and- protect.

And they say Christianity is a religion of women and children and weaklings.

Suffered martyrdom in
Ethiopia killed by a sword

Died in Alexandria, Egypt, after being dragged by horses through the streets until he was dead
. 3

Was hanged in Greece as a result of his tremendous preaching to the lost. 4

Faced martyrdom when he was boiled in huge basin of boiling oil during a wave of persecution in Rome . However, he was miraculously delivered from death. John was then sentenced to the mines on the prison island of Patmos . He wrote his prophetic Book of Revelation on Patmos. The apostle John was later freed and returned to serve as Bishop of Edessa in modern Turkey . He died as an old man, the only apostle to die peacefully.

He was crucified upside down on an x-shaped cross. According to church tradition it was because he told his tormentors that he
felt unworthy to die in the same way that Jesus Christ had died. Tradition also teaches that Peter's wife was crucified next to him. Peter reportedly called out to her, 'Remember the Christ'
Just The leader of the church in Jerusalem , was thrown over a hundred feet down from the southeast pinnacle
of the Temple when he refused to deny his faith in Christ. When they discovered that he survived the fall, his enemies beat James to death with a fuller's club. This was the same pinnacle where Satan had taken Jesus during the Temptation
James the Great
Son of Zebedee, was a fisherman by trade when Jesus called him to a lifetime of ministry. As a strong leader
of the church, James was ultimately beheaded at Jerusalem . The Roman officer who guarded James watched amazed
as James defended his faith at his trial. Later, the officer walked beside James to the place of execution. Overcome
by conviction, he declared his new faith to the judge and knelt beside James to accept beheading as a Christian

Also known as Nathaniel sas a missionary to Asia . He witnessed for our Lord in present day Turkey .
Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia where he was flayed to death by a whip.

Was crucified on an x-shaped cross in Patras , Greece . After being whipped severely by seven soldiers they tied
his body to the cross with cords to prolong his agony. His followers reported that, when he was led toward the cross, Andrew
saluted it in these words: 'I have long desired and expected this happy hour. The cross has been consecrated by the body of Christ
hanging on it.' He continued to preach to his tormentors for two days until he expired.

Was stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church in the sub-continent

Was killed with arrows when he refused to deny his faith in Christ.

The apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot, was stoned and then beheaded.

Was tortured and then beheaded by the evil Emperor Nero at Rome in A.D. 67. Paul endured a lengthy imprisonment which allowed him to write his many epistles to the churches he had formed throughout the Roman Empire . These letters, which taught many of the foundational doctrines of Christianity, form a large portion of the New Testament.

Perhaps this is a reminder to us that our sufferings here
are indeed minor compared
to the intense persecution and cold cruelty faced by the apostles
during their times for the sake of the Faith. And ye shall be hated
of all men for my name's sake.
More Christians are being persecuted NOW than at any other time in history. Pray for the persecuted church at large.

But he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
