Blue heelers eating carrots?

Our vet said Buddy is overweight and needs to have his caloric intake cut. He suggested serving him carrots at night instead of his dog food. Anybody had this same issue and how did their dog fare?

Maxie doesn't have a weight problem, but I can tell you he LOVES carrots. We have a game where I hide baby carrots around the house and Max finds them. It keeps him busy!

Pepper absolutely loves carrots as well! She will run around the house and play with them before she eats them. It's pretty adorable!

Thanks all who replied. I cut back on dry food and added carrots. We are already seeing a difference.

Pepper is only 6months old and she will go out to our garden and take the tomatoes off the bush and eat them. She loves to eat squash,zuccin,tomatoes,peppers, and every other veggie and fruit. But her favorite treat is cumbers. She runs outside with the kids. And fights with her best friend that is a 7month old St bernard.
