 | | | | This is my first post on here and I am desperately in need of help! My brother has a 9 month old purebred Boxer who is currently in the process of being crate trained. My brother works from around 8am - 5pm and his dog must stay in his crate the whole time. While I personally think it is unfair to expect a young puppy to be able to stay in a box that long, this is my brother's schedule and is dog's life. The problem we have is this: his dog breaks out of his cage EVERY DAY and destroys anything he can get his mouth on!
He has gotten a lot better with potty training in the house but is still not quite where he needs to be in order to be able to run freely through the house all day. My brother has tried numerous clasps attached to the exterior of the crate in order to keep his dog from busting the wiring apart of the cage but the dog continues to break them all. The dog is a solid white Boxer and thus cannot be kept outside in the direct sunlight all day so the backyard is out of the question. He also digs out frequently so that is another issue with the backyard. He cannot be left alone in the home due to his potty issues and he tears things up when alone as well. My brother is at the end of his rope with this dog. He does not want to give him away because he does love his dog but where does it end?? I keep him on a regular basis too when he gets too bad because I stay home all day and have with my dogs their entire lives. Can anyone give any suggestions about crate training a dog that we may not have tried so far? This has become such a problem for my brother and I do not his dog to be mistreated or given away as a result! Thanks in advance for any suggestions or tips. | | | | |
