I have had my dog for 4yrs now. I just recently found out what kind of breed she is which is very exciting. She is extremely intelligent and training her has been very successful. The one challenge I have is getting her to relax when other dogs come near me. She is very protective of me. When on walks and another dog is around she gets in between me and the other dog. Sometimes she is nippy if the dog doesn't get the message. Has anyone experienced this with their shepard or is this a behavioral thing? If so anyone experienced in correcting this?

Its in the breed of WGS. My Buckley who just passed days before xmas. He was sick really sick liver, hep......He only liked people he knew in CA and my parents. Wouldn't let anyone in my home, near me etc. Kind of a lonely life with just him and I. They need to earn respect of the person and it takes time. When people would try to throw a ball at the dog park he was great, and very friendly, but we moved to MA and things changed. He met people threw the fence and they kept coming and doing ball stuff and he gained their trust. He was more fearful than the protective, that is what the Police trainer I went to said. Be proactive, have a ball or a treat with you on meeting people and dogs. My beloved was the most amazing dog, but anxious, fearful all the traits that Whites have. Good luck. Beth and the gone but never forgotten and more loved Buckley.
