 | | | | We have a 12 week old Jack Russell, and he's coming along nicely in MOST areas. BUT I have a big problem with two things. One: He chases and barks at our 3 cats even after he's gotten cuffed, clawed, swatted and hissed at! It's a breed trait, I know, he's fearless, but I'm worried it'll turn to aggression as he gets older. Any ideas on that? Two: He jumps and bites something awful...not all the time, only when playing and gets hyper, then he gets all nippy. He will stop when you say "OFF!" and "NO BITE!" but then just goes right back at it. The problem with it, is he can get on the sofa now, and my 2 yr old has no where to get away. I NEVER leave them alone, and I supervise always, but he'll jump up and grab her hair, her face in a split second, like if she tries to pet him. We immediately remove him and time out him to the kitchen for a few minutes, but I'm frustrated that he learns so quickly with other things, like "Sit" and "Drop it", but the biting, he just keeps doing it even though we've been working on correcting it for well, the whole 4 weeks we've had him. Is this just the teething puppy stage? Will our consistency and patience in keeping up with discipline work? When or how long will it take? He is due to start puppy class in a couple weeks. It just stinks that I have to put him in the kitchen even to use the bathroom to make sure he's not biting someone when he's in a playful mood. It's also not like 100% of the time, but now he's awake and playful more often, so it's happening more in the last two weeks. He IS responding to the "Off" and "No Bite", so should I just keep it up? It's hard when the kids want to play with him, but in like 2 minutes he gets all nippy and either they have to go upstairs or outside to play or he has to go to time out until he calms down. Should I like take him out and walk him when he gets like that? He does get walked every day and exercised. I'd love some advice on this, especially any Jack Russell owners! | | | | |
