I'm getting my first Whippet in a couple weeks and I'm wondering if there's anything I should know about the breed that the breed books and breeders might not have told me... silly puppy things, things they don't learn very well, sensitivities (I've heard about certain anesthetics causing problems), and anything else I might have missed out on.

By the way, he's a 6 month old boy, and he's from a show/racing breeder. I hope to do racing or coursing with him eventually, although I don't know much about either sport yet, so he may just end up being a part-time couch potato like Monty.

Make sure you have a large backyard or are able to take walks with your new whippet at least once or twice a day(depending on the length). Whippets can get very bored, VERY easily and will start finding ways to exercise themselves. I take my two whippets for a half a mile walk ech day, and then jump them in the backyard, which is good, but they could still go for longer!laugh out loud

Amen! I run and run and run but I still get bored inside when mommy and daddy go to work so grandpa has a key to our home and he comes over during the day to let me and my furry family out. He is retired so we get to see him alotsmile Also note that we get cold very easily so you should have a blanket for your baby when it is bed/nap time. I get sooo cold that mommy lets me get all the way under the covers between her and daddy sometimes.

I am not sure if this is a "breed thing" but I am very sensitive and my feelings are hurt easily. I really hate it when mommy or daddy doesn't want me right in their facehappy dance
