Hi everyone! Just wanted to ask your opinion about something: my "people" have heard from several sources that we paps really prefer having a canine companion at home--in fact, quite a lot of people like to have multiple paps so that they can all keep each other company. What do you think?
I'm 4 years old and my absolute favorite thing in the world is to cuddle and play with my humans--but do you think I'd be happier if I had a little canine friend at home, as well?snoopy

If your dog is home alone a lot - I definitely think it helps to have another one. Gizmo was an only dog for 4 years until I moved backed home with my parents and their 2 dogs. He definitely seemed happier around them. I got my 2nd Papillon this September so that when I move out - Gizmo won't be alone or shellshocked that he's alone again. Also, its better to add another dog while the older one is still young. The transition wasn't easy as pie like I thought between Gizmo and Yoshi. It took awhile. The first day he wouldn't come near me at all. The next day I bribed him with treats. It took him several days to realize he had a playmate - he'd watch Yoshi play with all the toys. One day it clicked and they were playing tug. Now they're always stealing each others toys away from one another.

They say that if you the opposite sex for your second dog that they'll get along better. I agree -I that think if Yoshi were a female they might've bonded closer but I wanted another male because my dad is dog magnet and all female dogs eventually become his! So, I got another male because they bond better to women than men. Yoshi and Gizmo are good play buddies but his best friend is my parents 10 year old female Havanese - Mimi.

Good luck!

I also have a 4 year old papillon and would love to get another puppy but not sure how Toby would feel about it. Being the only dog in the household for four years and getting all the attention....not sure if he would be happy to have a playmate or not.

Hi,

I have two brothers they are not Paps, they are King Charles Cavaliers. I have a lot of fun with them, and when we are alone
we all cuddle together. When my mom first brought me home they did not want anything to do with me, but now we are the best of pals. Adding a new pup will be an adjustment for your existing dog, and does take a little time. I have 3 males and have not had any issues.

Multiple Paps? Of course! But I can say that because I'm the middle child. I have an older sister (2 years older than me) and a younger brother (1 year younger than me). We have a great time together.

Each of our favorite thing to do is play with and cuddle with Mom. But we also love to play with each other. We help each other protect the house, we go outside to play with each other, we chase each other and we all chase Hannah (our half sister -- she's a cat) together.

I really count on my bigger sister to help me be brave and I rough house with my younger brother. So, I think multiple Paps is perfect! http://www.dogster.com/forums/post.php#

Hi! I'm Toby's bigger sister. I agree with him about multiple Paps. I love my younger brothers. But I also wanted to add another point of view. When I was an only child, I went just about everywhere I could with Mom. But now that she's got 3 of us, we don't go with her a lot. Now, there are places I could never go with her -- like the place she calls "work." And since she's there a lot, I'm really glad I have my brothers and half-sister to spend the day with. But there are also times I would just like to go to the store with Mom like we used to. But she takes us when she can -- it's just a bit more difficult with 3 of us.
