My mom believes I have a skin allergy to grass clippings. I have a big, fenced in back yard, but I would rather play inside (hot here in Alabama in the summer). Mom has nasal allergies and refused to cut the back yard this summer. A nice friend came and cut the front yard and cut a patch out back for me to do my biz. I was ok, for the most part. Also, I break out if ONE flea bites me. We have not had a bad flea seasosn this year. Yipee! Anybody else heard of other pooches or bullies having skin allergies to grass?

Wishing you all good health, Macey

Mommy has wondered before if I have an allergy to grass, but now she thinks it might be our trees. But yes, you really can be allergic to grass. I have heard for that for some types of grasses. Also, some doggies have horrible allergies to fleas. So bad that they have grass to potty on growing in their garage just for them!!!! Now that's bad.

I hope you find some relief.

My doggie is allergic to 9 grasses. I tried everything to stop the itching and scratching. Probably a good idea to have an environmental allergy test run. I finally put my Kibbles on Atopica and it seems to be working. Some also add Doxepin with it.

Poor Kibbles! 9 different grasses! Did they do a blood test to determine the allergies? I am suspecting the cut grass...since I did not cut the back yard this year, we did not have a bad skin allergy year. The fleas (knock-on-wood) were not bad this year either. I know she breaks out with one flea bite too.

Best wishes for no more itchies to everyone!

I'm more allergic to grass than Storm is - but the only time I've ever seen him lick/chew his paws is after walking around on freshly-cut grass.

Do you ever take Benadyl for your itchiness? If so, how much and what type?
How long does it take for an allergy to clear - for instance if you were out in the itchy grass?

Poor Macey! Our older cat has a flea allergy and the vet said one bite can trigger inflamation and itching in bites even over a month old, so I guess that's what's happening! We've had good luck with Advantage, I don't know if you prefer not to use pesticide at all, but from the research I did I found Advantage had the fewest side effects reported (especially for cats, who are more sensitive).

Wiggy doesn't seem outright allergic to grass, but she has gotten a pink rash on her belly from direct contact with cut grass after I weedwacked the big hill behind our house. I found spreading some natural aloe vera gel on her belly really helped, her rash was gone by the evening. Plus it's non-toxic so you don't have to worry like with the medicated itch sprays.
