We have one cat who was here when Major arrived. Major and the cat aren't best friends, but they're buddies. They chase each other, although Major does the most aggressive taunting. Occasionally, they'll snuggle or rub noses, but rarely. Major is very jealous of the cat and if the kitty climbs on my lap, Major tries to join him (and in the process smothers me). But puppy is never aggressive in these situations. He only gets a little too aggressive when they're playing and he'll pounce on the cat. I don't think he realizes how big he is, but when the cat hisses, it scares the dog and he becomes a sissy boy and runs off.

Overall, it is a very good relationship and they do get lonely when they can't find one another. I think it's a matter of introducing the kitties to Aussies when they're young.

I do have to say, though, that there's a cat outside that drives Major nuts. If I say "Go get the cat" he runs outside and barks. I think he thinks our kitty is another dog. smile

We have 2 cats, Rowdy and Nicky, who live with us.. I like to chase them sometimes, but only because I want to play.. When they don't want to play with me, they lay their ears back, hiss at me and swat me a little.. they don't claw me though - they know I don't want to chase them to scare them. Sometimes, they will come up to me when I am laying out side, and they will want to cuddle with me. They rub up against me and that makes me happy..

I have a cat but Gypsy doesn't seem to mind her too much. Just recently she started herding the cat around the house. Occasionally Kitty will swat at Gypsy but she's declawed to I don't stop her. Gypsy has never been aggressive toward Kitty either.

I do have a cat named Max but he stays out of the way. He is mysterious. I am pretty good friends with the neighbors cat "Suds" who is used to dogs so doesn't freak when I show up.

I am more into chasing birds.

nice to meet you all.

i live with 2 cats, Ophelia & Nox, and we get along much like Shasta describes - i chase only to play and they make it clear if they are up for it or not.

it has been known to happen that Ophelia and i will lay calmly together taking turns cleaning each other's face & ears. its rare, but it happens.

I love my cat siblings! I have 4 of them (2 boys, 2 girls). Sometimes my energy level is a bit much for them, and then they hiss and growl and swat at me. We are slowly learning to co-exist, as I am all puppy and love to chase them when they run from me! I have been trying for months to learn their signals for play...my latest tactic is to just walk right up to them and smother them with kisses! The girls don't let me near them, but the boys are learning to tolerate me and my affections! smile Mighty, the youngest boy cat will even plop on the floor and roll on his side for me, and sometimes he'll even rub up against me! I never am aggressive with them nor do I try to hurt them, I just want to play!!!!!!!!!!

Well...I can honestly say that all 6 of us Aussies get along with the 3 cats share our house and 5 acres. We watch them closely though...they always look like that are plotting their escape. And they hide things from us...like our chew sticks and sometimes our sock toys. I'm not sure what they are planning to do with them, but I'm sure it is all in their escape plan. Sometimes, after a hard day at work...they will lay down by one of us and clean our ears. I think that means they like us too. But then again...it could be part of the "CAT Master Plan". We try to herd them all together....but that has proved to be an unfruitful event. But....all in all...we like them alot....especially when a good chase is afoot blue dogbig laugh

I have an aussie (Desoto) and a border collie and two cats. The border collie and the cats get along great. Desoto and the cats manage co-habitation. He gets along well with the smaller cat (Runt) and actually gave him a bath the other day. He doesnt try to herd them unless they run. Runt learned this and actually teases Desoto. He checks to see if Desoto is awake then he lets out one of his oinks (rescue, cant meow) and runs through the kitchen into the dining room and up onto the window sill and stairs at him like "ha,ha!"big laugh

We have 2 cats and Nyx doesn't seem to really care whether they are there or not. She pays them no mind at all as though they do not exist... My Pyrs think the cats are fun to chase and slobber on but not much more then that.
