 | |  | | i had a whippet/sherpei mix growing up and he ALWAYS got out and ran off he got hit by a car 2x in his life, healed up good as new from the first one but the 2nd killed him at 8 years old. =( it broke my heart to have my childhood companion die in the vet office while i was at school and i never knew it was happening. he was without a doubt in my mind the BEST dog that has ever graced this planet. i know believe that my dear sweet bobby boy has come back into my life as my dog Harmony. a whippet/lab mix who i got at the shelter because they have the exact same eyes. i was drawn to that pup out of houndreds (little doggy humor) that i looked at. i had a connection to her subconsciously i must have recognized his soul.
now whippets. they are great pets but you might want a treadmill to get them to run, they love it. and i know people cant always get out to go walk/dog park. my harmomy wakes up and barks for the treadmill to be turned on. same with our pit Gamma. Joey always ran off when he had the chance but harmony likes to say in the cul-de-sac and visit the kids and dogs 3 houses down and then come right back. its a matter of training and if a mix how in tune they are with their whippet "must run" mind set. a good recall command is a must with a whippet/mix or any dog for that matter. hope i helped! |  |  | |  |

I've been reading about 
I am actually considering maybe rescuing one in the far future but before I do I want to know all about the breed. Do you all have lots of problems with their prey drive? I do understand that they CAN'T be left offleash and I don't plan on it but how many of your whippets HAVE escaped? Is there anything I should know about these dogs? Does your whippet do flyball/agility?
