|We're urgently looking for help in getting much-needed reforms for the Jackson County Rabies Control shelter in Tennessee. This is a small, out-of-date shelter in a place with a high number of owner surrenders and a strong dogfighting culture, which means they are euthing every day - normally by heartstick. There is no attempt to spay and neuter or even to advertise animals up for adoption, other than on a volunteer FB page. There is a great group of volunteers working desperately to save these animals, but they fight a losing battle when local officials turn a blind eye to this place and refuse to fund programmes or a better approach.
A petition has been started, and calls are being made to the county and state governments. A protest is also being set up, and there's a reform page on FB for more information. Please take a look and sign the petition so we can start getting information. Please DO NOT call the shelter - there are animal groups attempting to rescue all the time, and it's important that the phone lines stay open for them to get through.
